anyone know the limit it can read?

This is dependant on the "class" of your SDcard.
If you look at your SDcard there should be a number with a C around it. Right now classes range from 1 to 10. The higher the number the FASTER it can read and write. If your card has no number with a C around it, then it is before they started clasifying sdcards and thus is pretty slow! I would be very careful tweaking build.prop or using ROM manager to tweak SD speeds unless you have a good class number.
