Help with finding the right tool for the job

    Hello,

I was forwarded to this forum by a friend and I hope you will be able to help me, if not, please forward me to a better option.

I am looking for the simplest way to read videos, present in my computer, from a TV, which is not in the same room. The videos can vary in quality (up to high HD), and in encoding. My TV does not have the ability to read data present on the network, but it has various unused HDMI ports.

I was told that I could use a combination of android TV + NAS, wherein I would first copy the videos from the computer to the NAS, and then use the android TV to access the videos present on the NAS. Is this the most effective way ? I do not need anything from the android TV (such as, accessing the internet, youtube, or any other app, including games), and would not buy one if an alternative exists.

My internet router is a orange livebox. but it does not seem to be able to access network files either.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Welcome to freaktab

Android supports many protocols for file sharing.. using nas or pc or other devices like phones
    Checkout this Wikipedia link http://kodi.wiki/view/File_sharing
If you wish to share vids from the pc --> to android, you should use one of these protocols

Other options directly connect a mass storage device To android device (With you vids)
    Like
    Sdcard (up to 32gb)
    Usb stick
Usb2sata external powered harddrive (up to 2tb)

    Goodluck

Hi, thanks for the answer, but my question was whether an Android device was even needed to achieve what I want, seeing as I don't really need anything from the Android system except for the capacity to connect to a network. Maybe there's another device, simpler, that provides the same functionality ?
And assuming it is needed, then what device would you recommend ?
      Thanks.

If I understand correctly you want to stream videos from a PC to a TV in a different room.
Does the TV have and WIFI/Ethernet
          If not

A very long HDMI cable from the PC to the TV, that would be messy and no way to control it from the TV.
There is also Video Senders they work on mostly on Composite video and not the best and again you have no control at the TV.

Something like a Chromecast and there are lots of cheaper options to look for, just an idea if you have no wifi/ethernet.
Use Kodi as mentioned or Plex server as I use on my PC, then it Wifi's to Chromecast device plugged into the HDMI port.
Also have a 6tb Nas with the Information is stored. Picture, Video, Music. Easy
          Cheers

I recently obtained an EzCast WiFi streaming device which might be a cheap option to stream wirelessly from your PC to your TV. There are many different versions of the product but the cheapest one ($20 with free shipping) consists of an HDMI dongle that you plug into a spare HDMI port on your TV and allows you to view movies, photos, files etc. that are stored on a PC, android or iOS cell phone or tablet. You do need to have a free software program running on the PC, cell or tablet to manage the wireless transfer of the picture to your television. Here is a video of the product that might give you a better idea of how it functions. You need to access the PC, cell or tablet at the start to select your video or photo. If you have access to an android phone you could install the EzCast Screen app and connect wirelessly to your PC to get an idea of how the product functions before purchasing it.

Otherwise I would suggest an android media player such as the 1GB MXIII-G which costs around $50 including free shipping. Post again if you want any more information about either of these two devices.
