SDCard question

Hi,

Might be a well known thing but it something i have just come across. I have inserted an 8gb micro sd and lost the links to the files and folders on the internal sd card.

Anyone know how i can access the internal memory and the external sd card at the same time?

You should not loose them they should be combined. When no physical SD card is present there is still a part of internal memory mounted as sd card. When you stick in a sd card they should be there.

Maybe look in /flash and see if they are there. But that should not happen.

I thought that might be want was supposed to happen, but I can't find any of the folders on the internal memory till I take the card out. Will have another look in a little while, battery has died again.

Sorry for the late reply.

I have just flashed sowa's new rom with a clean sd inserted on an 8g2, still the same problem.

After i install the sd i lose access to any files on the internal storage. They are only accessable once i remove the card.

Settings>storage shows both cards there and show the used and free dara but i can only access one at a time.

Any ideas?

I guess see if the stock ROM does that too. Might be a specific bug in the 8G2. The 10 G2 does not do that.

Wait... one other thing to check. Did you format the SD Card on a PC or something?
Make sure the format matches. It should be formatted FAT32. If you formatted it NTFS or FAT16, etc this could be the problem.

Right Bob I am totally confused.

I have attached a picture of the file structure on the tablet. The two folders that I have underlined (badly) in red disappear when I mount the SDcard. If I connect to the PC then I can see the folders and there contents but not from the tablet.

If I unmount the SD then the two folders come back. I have the SD formatted to Fat32, used the tablet to format it.

Any ideas why I am loosing these folder when I mount?

OK ok.... so your looking int he wrong places.

On the PC:
When you turn on USB you should get 2 removable drives show up on the PC. One is the physical SDcard. The other is internal memory on the tablet.
The SDCard removable drive is ONLY the physical SDcard. If you open that you will only see files on the Sdcard.
If you open the other drive for internal memory you will see a directory called sdcard. That should be "some" of your files that went onto the sdcard in internel memory but possibly NOT ALL OF THEM. Why? Because the internal memory sdcard some folders in there get mounted as... believe it or not.... /system /data/ videos /pictures/ /android etc etc... So poke around in those and you should find all your files in internal memory that you "think" went to internal sdcard.

In other words on the PC both sdcard mounts will show up different as they are mounted on the PC as different folders.

Now on the Tablet and this gets tricky to explain:
Lets use the STOCK file browser as it will be easier to see what is going on. Root file browser can confuse you as they show the true mount points.
So shut off the USB to the PC.
Now go in with the stock file browser and you should have this:
SD Card
Internal Memory
USB

Now when you open the SDcard it will ONLY be files on the physical sdcard!!!!
Now open internal memory. You will see a SD card there but again THIS IS NOT the internal memory one! It is the physical SD card. However like above on the PC the internel SD Card is mounted as several folders.
e.g. /music / video /DCIM etc. So again poke around in there. I bet you will find some of it in /data or /Android or possibly even in /system.

Cheers for the reply. Still cant find the files.

I have placed a text file in the folder i cant find called findme.txt. With the external card out i can do a search for the file and find it in the following path "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/assorted apps/findme.txt".

Once i mount the card that path no longer exists?

It must be a common 8G2 bug then. This does not happen on my 10 G2.

got the same problem...

i'm trying to transfer wpa_supplicant file to my sd card with my a7bg2c using the usb cable
and when i tried accessing it thru root explorer, cant find the sd card..only the itnernet memory appears on the root explorer..

solutionlug out the usb cable and now the root explorer or just even the my files app can detect both the sd card and internal storage...

Bob, I'm having the same problem and I've got a 10G2 flashed with your 1.4 Rom.

If without a memory card mounted, I put a file into sdcard directory, using ES File explorer, I can see it, with existing 'Files' ->Internal Memory->SD Card the file is there.

Now if I then put in a memory card then the file is not there, using either of the above ways.

If in ES, I change the home directory to '/' I can then go 'up' and see the flash directory you mentioned in earlier post, yet nowhere in that directory can I find the file either.

If I then unmount and remove the card, then the file is findable again.

Any ideas?

It's not just my 1.,4 ROM it is a STOCK ROM problem. Well not really a problem just how Arnova chose to implement!
