I just tried this. Windows 7 did find a USB device and wanted install drivers. But this failed. Now I'm not able to reproduce this.

You should install the Rockchip drivers first: https://androidmtk.com/download-rock...iver-assistant

Yes, the version 4.5 is installed. Sometimes I hear the notification when I plug in the device. But that's all.

To enter the maskrom mode, short the eMMC clock to the ground in order to detect rockusb protocol using USB cable.

I don't know exactly where to locate the eMMC clock of A5X Max. Can anyone spot this please?

The Reality is, those boxes are a POS. Without root, they are completely useless. When you root, the drama begins,

              Hello

Finally I'm able to connect to the pc with the RK Android Tool 2.3.9. This brings up FOUND ONE MASKROM DEVICE. Another Tool says TEST DEVICE FAIL. So I can't install another firmware. Must I first install the boot bin? If so, where to find the .bin file? Or I'm completely wrong?

you are one step ahead. try getting the right firmware for your box. then, go to 2nd tab "upgrade firmware" to load up your img from the firmware button. then once you get back to "found one maskrom device". just hit the upgrade button. see what will happen...
