Digital2 Platinum 751G at BigLots 8G/dual core/1G ram/ 1024 x 600

Happened to see this at BL last week. This is supposed to be "released" on 8/11 according to Digital2 support. $99. Notihing listed on the d2pad.info site.

Anyone have any experience with Digital2 "brand"?

Although I returned the Polaroid 720 dual core because the battery time was poor, I did like the hdmi out and the speed that tablet offered.

Antutu rating 8900. Need to root to get battery rating.

This 751g works smoothly - 1.2ghz dual core ARM7 chip with Mali 400 gpu, got over 3 hours battery with constant use inc wifi. No hdmi, unfortunately but does have microsd in, headphones and usb connection box says there is a mic input but not there unless in with headphone jack. Also has mic and 2 cameras - .3M on front and 2M on back.

G sensor very responsive and internet use very smooth. Viewing movies also very good with no skipping. Have yet to try Netflix.

Made an attempt to root but windows is being very tough to get adb working. Mac OSX got the adb shell right away but I have yet to figure out how to root using adb. Tried to remount and -rw to system folder but have yet to get it to work. I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

avgary: Wow! You are ahead of even the Internet on this one! I can't find a trace of this tablet anywhere in Google. Is it called the "D2-751G" or the "D2-751"?

AFAIK Digital2 is just a renaming of the old Diablotek company. I've always been pretty satisfied with their hardware, albeit it's being pretty low-end. I have one of the ancient D2Pad tablets with the 1.2Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM - with a DPI tweak and the Play store hacked onto it, it wasn't bad. That was the first cheaptab I ever messed with

May have to go to Big Lots and get hands-on with this new unit! Though TBH I don't think it's going to displace the Sero 7 Lite and Sero 7 Pro from my cheap clutches

Also, I have seen a nice new method of one-step rooting that uses the recently discovered "end-to-end" vulnerabilities in Android - care to give that method a try? I've successfully used it to root two tablets so far...

Yes, the unit is not "out there" which is why I took a look at it. The problem I have is that there is a driver issue between the mtp and adb drivers. Can't get a windows machine to view it - xp or win7 - in adb. I have tried to rewrite the inf file to change the way the drivers read but they will not work and there is no way to turn off the mtp setting on this tab. It works ok as a media device without turning on usb developer but screws up if you want to get into adb. Maybe I am doing something wrong on the windows side.

Adb works on the mac side but I have yet to find an exploit that works on the mac to root the tablet. Tried to do it manually but have not been able to change permissions on the tab side.

All in all, a big PIA.

I was confused by that too as it was listed for $89.99 in the Big Lots ad today.

I'd be curious to know if you can get adb to work with a pc because as I said before I had a conflict with the mtp driver and the adb driver. As long as I did not turn on usb developer setting, mtp worked and the tab came up as a Digital2 Platinum portable device.

You could not turn off mtp setting even though there was a check mark, even after resetting the tab.

There is NO SUPPORT on the d2info site.

I am thinking about the lowered price on the Sero 7 Pro, if I can get it. Also wish Polaroid put out their M7 which seems more like a dream than anything else.

Sounds like a bad unit. I, too, tried a variety of things with the "hard" reset in the back but nothing happened except the unit turned off.

You could try the d2info support. They responded to me the next day on an overnight email.

Worst case, just swap it out. Better now than 30 days from now.

Very likely it's bad. Digital2 replied to me with instructions for a hard reset. The logo was supposed to appear and then a menu. The logo appeared but no menu. I sent that information to them and no repose after that.

What I can say happened is that I am sure the battery went dead overnight on Friday. It seems that if the battery drains out on this tablet it will never start up successfully again. It died overnight on Thursday and I had a heck of a time to start it on Friday, but thought it was a one time thing. It claims to be charging with their wall wart or USB but nothing more.

Don't let the battery die or you will have a brick.

Digital2 Tablet from Big Lots. Not good

Since last Saturday I have had 3 of these. First one gave me trouble on 3rd day. It shut itself off, and took at least 10 seconds to get it to come back on. Within another 2 days, I could not get it to come back on at all. Had static logo with no boot to menu screen. Attempted to reset to no avail. Exchanged #1 at Big Lots yesterday. Brought #2 home, attempted to load micro SD card. Spring mechanism kept shooting it out across the room. Went right back to Big Lots for try #3. Brought it home, used it last night, shut it down, took a long time pressing in starter to get it to come back on this am. Was downloading some books, got a warning that it was at 14% power. Turned off app, as I did, static sound, went to black, have not been able to get it to come back on. Black screen even after attempt to charge and reset. Thing is garbage! Don't waste your time or money. I am going to return it today, get my $ back, and wait until Christmas to get Samsung Galaxy.

I finally got to lay eyes on one at a Big Lots, and you're right, it doesn't look like a "1024x768" format tablet to me - it looks more like a conventional (albeit maybe higher resolution) 7" tablet.

The PMID706 has been out for months, and still no recovery image for IT, EITHER. A model is usually discontinued by the time (or before) a recovery image is released...

Yeah I saw that on their website too. They seem to do more support for their tablets than Polaroid, but we shall see. I saw this one at Big Lots and told a buddy of mine that wanted one. He got it and had me load stuff to it for him, games and other apps. Seems pretty nice and does hold a charge better. I like the screen myself. Box says it&#39;s HD 1024 x 600 but I see thats not the case from the posts. I may drop my Polaroids and buy one. Anybody know who owns and where Digital2 is located? Looks to be CA since its hours are Pacific Time but that doesn&#39;t mean much.</p>

Support is great but....

I'm on my third 751G and it just bricked last night! D2 has replaced the original tablet twice - quickly and without question (including a free PC videogame each time - I'm not a gamer so I don't know anything about them) but I think I'm done. I think I'll be returning both tablets on the prepaid UPS label they sent me and asking for a full refund. They did pre-ship tablet #3 in advance of my returning it. I haven't thrown #2 in the mail yet so I considering returning both of them.

The third 751 definitely had updated firmware but I am now at the dreaded "logo lockup" once again. It seems that if the firmware decides the battery is "dead," whether it actually is or not, it puts the tablet into some kind of a lockup mode and it will never boot again. There is no hard reset. After about 30 seconds of holding the power button (and no matter what combination of volume buttons, time, what have you) you will get the Digital2 logo and that's where it stays forever. I left tablets 2 and 3, both fully charged, in the logo lockup state this morning before leaving for work in the hopes that the batteries would be fully drained and that might cause some sort of hard reset, but I am not hoprful.

It's a shame, it's not a bad tablet when it works. But you get about a week and then it locks up. So to me it's a 39 cent chicken. Spend a few more bucks and get one that works.
