A box without fan will run about 50°C on idle.

A Mecool M8S Max with built in fan will not go below 39° on idle
of course you can pick 80°C value too...it is up to you

My point was more that even with such an IC, the fan will run constantly anyway, as it will never reach the desired low temperature

Better to buy a new one than try to repair it. These parts are cheap and not even worth repairing. WhatsApp GB

That is come insane cooling, as I would like to think absolutely unneeded. These chips can run hot for quite a long time at 60c. same with PDAs. I put a small fan in mine cuz it was at 65-70c n now its at 45. only a little 30mm fan.

                    Yes this is standard box.

With a large heat sink got it down to around 70°C and adding a fan in suction mode under the box to about 60°C

Take note this is running Kodi 17.1 I think, which was pretty heavy on processor load, but the average budget box without any modification will run high seventies whatever streaming app you use.

Tested a Magicsee N5 Max a few weeks ago, and with StressCpu it would be at 75°C within less than 2 minutes.

It would then stay stable at the temperature, but throttle processor frequency. After 5 minutes it would run at 1200 Mhz.and go as low as 1000 Mhz

                      Hi ,

better would be a little bit cooler , but for Thailand , if you can permanently hold the 60 degrees , would be good ,

my RK3399 runs always about 40 degrees , but i live in Germany ,

                      further good luck / gefattern

That is come insane Hot, as I would like to think absolutely needed active cooling for prolong use for child rhymes run over ~3 hrs or less

These chips can run hot for quite a long time at 60c or 70c ,so i put a small 5 volt a little 30mm fan it now its at ~40 to 50. only.
