Today I want to introduce the Nexbox MXQ Pro, an AML S905 based Android TV-box. Thanks to Everbuying.net for sending me the box for a closer look on this nice small black box.
Let me be clear first of all. This cheapo box costs around 30 Dollar, so we have to keep the expectations in relation to the price. Testing a 100 Dollar Box would be in most cases another experience.
Okay, so where do we start?
The first boot of the box is an important step for a complete installation and the mxq pro box needs their time to load and configure the firmware. You have to wait around 5 minutes until you see the launcher desktop the first time, but wait better 5 minutes more. The Firmware is working in the backround, cleaning things up for you.
After that enter your google account and wait again 5-10 minutes, this time for the synchronisation. Then open google play. Maybe it needs another round with a reboot for a complete setup of google play, but then your are ready.
You can take a closer look around and you will see, that the firmeware has not much apps installed. Very good, everybody could choose his own app constellation over google play. Don’t forget to remember you have 8GB memory inclusive the system which takes around the half of the memory. So you will need an sdcard for more memory and be careful, not every app likes to be moved on the sdcard.
Not forget to mention that TV-Launcher has a clear structure and the design is not bad at all.

The connectivity of this Box is good. You have 4 usb 2.0 slot, a digital out with a SPDIF, ethernet and an AV out. Not every box has this combination in their profile.
I have not tested the SPDIF, only the AV-out and it works fine, except of audio stream is not very strong, but the sound is clear without backround noise. You can use it as headphone connection, but even with aimp player software EQ you get not much more pressure the audio channels. The sound stays with eq boost clear without to much bass or treble and you can choose the character you like with the software EQ details.
There is no Bluetooth on board and some of us will miss this connection for keyboard, controller or BT-Audio, but don’t forget, we have a low entry box at the start.
Performance of the box
This is not a gamer TV-Box for sophisticated gamers, but for small games it will do the job.
With about 35500 Antutu points you have good result. Every basic job should be handled well.
HDMI out produces a sharp and balanced picture in full hd. The hdmi audio sound is loud and clear.
Kodi does run out of the box, needs some extra loading time in relation to more advanced boxes, but at the end the videos are playing without lags in full hd. Netflix has no trouble at all to entertain you in the regular hd format, with your favourite TV-shows.
The firmware in my box was from the start not acceptable. Laging around like hell, but an update Firmware from June 2016 changes this picture. Lags are now quiet rare and everything is working more fluid.
I would recommend to update your firmware, in case you have an older firmware then June 2016.
