My phone came via DHL. Inside the envelop, was another cardboard box that carried the actual package in bubble wrap. The Picture on left is the Box packaging of the phone and on right are the contents. That's a nice touch with Black Plastic Box. The box contained, the phone, Manual and Asia/Europe Charger. The Manual is in English but is more like Dummy's Guide to Android Smartphone. I was also kind of hoping for some sort of MHL Cable or HDMI Cable. Oh well. But hey, the phone came with one Screen protectors already on. I don't know if that's the case for everyone or just me.

    First Impressions -

I have a Black Gray colored unit. I The phone came with Asian / European Plug and no US converter. That was a bummer. The battery also came about quarter drained when I started. The Initial experience is pretty pleasant.

This is a Aluminium UniBody Design without ability to remove battery. On the left side is the Camera Button along with the Sim Card Slot and on the right side you have Volume Buttons as well as Power Button. The Home Button also doubles as fingerprint scanner.

    Impressions -

This unibody bushed Aluminium case reminds me of HTC Phones, particularly back case. The phone is about the same width as the LG G4 but slightly longer. That makes it easy for one handed operations. The Smart Button although customizable, is set for Camera. Camera can also be configured to the Power button and the Smart button on left of the screen can be used for other purposes. The out of Box Launcher is bit sluggish and clunky. However, I installed the leaked Pixel Launcher and it works admirably. The phone overall does feel snappy and does not have much by way of bloat. I wish the phone was rooted out of box but oh well.

    DISPLAY -

The Umi Plus has 5.5-inch multi-point capacitive touch screen, with Full HD 1,920x1,080 pixels Display which is pretty much the same size as Oppo R9, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or the Meizu M3 Note.
The Display is bright enough to be readable in Sunlight. The Colors are vibrant enough but seem to be off in terms of paler shades. For ex lighter shades of green are not distinguishable with moderate screen brightness.

    SOUND -

Audio decoder support is limited. However for those that are supported, such as MP3, the reproduction was adequate. Particularly outstanding. But over Bluetooth, the reproduction by my BT Headphones was better than the one through the speakers. Particularly the drum was faded.

This phone is able to connect via 2.5 GHz and 5 GHZ Wifi along with 4G for the specific carriers. Here are the results of the Speed Test over WiFi. Wireless performance seems about on par with my ISP. Those are about right. The test was done on 5.0 GHZ Network if anyone is interested.

    Camera -

The Photos adequate for a phone in this price range. Its not outstanding. The colors are definitely faded. Here are a few samples including during bright sunlight as well as dusk.

Note, that I resized the pictures for the purpose of posting here. Please note the blurring of the Grey Brickwork in the picture of the building.

    Performance -

I was bit apprehensive given ARM Mali T860 in this phone. Using Antutu as well as Antutu Video tester app, I had a mixed bag. Limited to no support for most of the common formats was noted. This brought down the overall AnTuTu Score for Video. However the Main Score is not that high. On Comparison, it is less than the Nexus 6 and LG V10.

That Summary is pretty Revealing into itself. Further details are bellow.

That's pretty damning. But you are not intending to use the phone for extensive Video playback, then for normal youtube usage, this should be fairly adequate. Speaking of youtube, here is a video of Unboxing.

    Rooting -

The Phone is not Pre-Rooted. However on XDA, there is a thread for this device that would allow you to install a Custom Recovery and root that way.

    Common Questions -
    1. Does this phone work on xxx Carrier in YYY Country ? Please verify on http://www.willmyphonework.net/
    2. Is this Rooted ? No

The phone is not currently available for purchase as yet. But it will soon be on Gearbest.
