Could VR headsets make the TV redundant?

I just saw this Youtube video posted 5 minutes ago introducing one of the uses for the new Rockchip RK3399 SOC in VR headsets and with them likely to explode across markets over the next year, as they get better and more comfortable, it made me wonder whether they are on track to completely replace the traditional TV set.

So pretty much the same effects that we get with new stock firmwares then.

I've been given a headset tonight as a present, so will be trying it out for myself over the weekend, so had better get the sick bucket ready then.

Perhaps over time, as they are used more and there is a sort of grown de-sensitivity from continual use that motions sickness will not be such an issue.

It can affect different people different ways
Just don't wreck the ankle and strap yourself in.

All to do with frame rates etc
You do read about it can gets very technical the how and the why it happens.
The brain is not tricked enough so it happens,
When the brain is fully tricked then you realise is this the real life or is this just fantasy.... woo woo

Well having her clothed will allow you a more gradual introduction to world of virtual seduction. Got to leave something to the imagination.


I think the motion sickness is just the imagination being jealous and throwing a fit.

Well I watched the first movie last night and was rather impressed, even for a bottom of the market headset.

Most of the virtual seduction was dinosaurs eating flesh but it didn't make me yearn for a rare steak.

I did try a roller coaster simulation that did make the senses roll a bit but not too much.

I can potentially see a future where once these headsets are reduced to a weight and size that is more akin to wearing a pair of sunglasses and where families might all sit in their armchairs of an evening to watch on their own fit in the pocket portable TV sets and entertainment consoles.

Not for me but it's possible that for some there could be.

Great point, trebor. No one size fits all, there will always be variety of tastes, but I think VR will definately grow more common and one day it might be so dominant, just coz with its development, comfort and advantages esp. young generation will switch to it.

I like how it can be combined with real life motion. Eg. this waterpark has the waterslide ride with VR on with completely differnet world - spacecraft ride and man.... that is hell of a hardcore disturbance, but fun

If you can place a screen anywhere you wish virtually then you may not want a TV facetime app.
