    New - Archos 80 Cobalt 900supersport 1.1 ROM

I've now released my first ROM for the Archos 80 Cobalt, see the following post for the download

    http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...4348#post44348

This is based on Archos's ICS firmware.

    Features
    • defaults to uk
    • root
    • some bloat removed
    • busybox and init.d support
    • play/market fixes for mor apps in google play
    • 2 Gig apps/user space
    • clockwork recovery courtesy of Finless
    Instructions
    • flashing will clear all your data so you may want to backup first
    • remove any external sdcard as otherwise it may be formatted
    • download and unzip
    • start the ROM tool
    • put the tab into bootloader/flash mode * and install drivers if required
    • click erase idb
    • on completion flash the ROM
    • first boot will be to recovery, select reboot (vol keys navigate and power selects)
    • this boot will take a little longer but you then have a freshly setup tab
    * to put the tab into bootloader/flash mode either
    • with the tab off hold vol - and connect the USB to the PC after a few seconds (could be as much as ten) the tab should be detected by the flash tool.
    • from a rooted tab with a terminal emulator. Connect to the PC by USB then on the terminal emulator you can enter
    Code:
    su
    reboot bootloader
Drivers are included in the ROM kit if required

cifs support can be added as follows

    instructions
    • download the cifs.zip to the internal sdcard, do not extract
    • reboot the tab to recovery (i've included Petrus's reboot app in the system tray)
    • from recovery select 'install zip from sdcard' (scroll with vol +-, select with power)
    • select 'choose zip from internal sdcard'
    • navigate through the folders etc to find cifscwm.zip and select
    • scroll through the nos and select 'Yes -Install cifscwm.zip' and let it do it's stuff
    • select go back and then reboot systm now
    Your done :-)

Finally a couple of words of thanks to
    1. t-bon3 for supplying the tab at the price tesco sold it
    2. the team here at freaktab, especially Finless without whom I would not be cooking ROMs

I think there is more to come from this tab and ROM but felt this was a useful improvement from stock.

      I hope you enjoy.

Glad to hear that this is just the start of your work with this tablet.
You've been great, right from the start.

Looking forward to what the potential this tablet has to offer!

The rkandroid tool refuses to recognise my device, which is correctly showing up as RK30 in device manager. Can't flash ;(

EDIT: Fixed it, changed SUPPORTUSB11=0 to 1 in Settings.ini. Flashing now...

            When I launch "Appinjector"
            it displays the message
"Package file not found at "/mnt/sdcard/package.zip" : select file"
I press OK and then the message goes away.
The message is displayed each time the app is cold started.

Thats the only bug/probem im found with this rom so far.

            Good work!

App injector is a really useful tool developed by Petrus from this site. You can use if to create zip files containing your current system and user apps using the backup option. So long as you store it somewhere safe after flashing you can transfer the zip back to the tab and use app injector to put the apps back. It does not backup the data.

Also included is the reboot app also by Petrus.

I see, so it looks for a backup file on startup and displays that message if you haven't made a backup and it cannot find one.

I just tested it out and created a backup, handy app!

Been playing with it for an hour or so now, seems good and fast The Play store fixes are most welcome...

The only bugs I've found are from the stock ROM - iPlayer seek/sync issues, 'sticky' icons on the stock launcher (the stock launcher is rubbish anyway though)

                    Very impressed, thanks Supersport!

This is not a problem with your rom but a problem I and a friend have with this tablet.
If there is a fix then perhaps it can be implemented into this rom.

                      Youtube Version 4.2.16
It seems that no matter what video I play it stops buffering at the 1 minute mark. It seems to have poor/random playback and buffering issues after the 1 minuet mark.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas what we can do to fix this (other than use a 3rd party youtube app)

                      Thanks

                              Best rooting instructions ??

                              Thanks for the reply.

Are the rooting instructions from XDA developers the best ones to use before using this rom??

Here is the guide and tools to rooting the Archos 80 Cobalt 8" tablet running ICS 4.0.4. At the moment there are no custom roms for this device and any other roms for Archos devices will result in a soft-brick. The rooting procedure is pretty...
