10b G3 ROM DUMP wanted! - Success! Thanks Alley!

OK I get a request like every day if I have got my hands on a 10B G3 ICS stock ROM dump.

Seems not many have this tablet yet and those that do are not really showing up asking for rooted firmware!

If someone has this tablet I will do my best to help you learn how to dump the ROM. Many are tired of waiting for others that claim to have a ROM dump show up with it. And to be honest if I do a ROM I want a stock backup.img dump not something someone else hacked on.

So boys and girls.... If you have this Tab, help everyone by getting us all a ROM dump!

I was first to root the 9G2 ICS properly thanks to a ROM DUMP from a user on an Italian forum, and if I get a dump of the 10b G3 not only can I give you the best root but also work MUCH QUICKER at seeing about porting this to the other 10 G2's...

So help the FreakTab users here if you can

    Just so you know

    Bob
I still have not found a way to get root on the 10bG3.
So if you know of any progress in this area please advise...

    thanks

Are you using RKDump? If so try pushing it ot /data/local instead of /data/data. Some people have got it working without root like that.

        RK29

All the rkdump software I have found online refers to the 2818 chip
The 10bG3 uses the 29 chip

Alley, you do not need root to dump the tablet. Do you have a linux box setup?

              Cool OK.

So first go here and get RKflash tool V2 for linux. Compile it. also follow the instructions to installl lib-usb driver for linux.
Hi, Because I don't run Windows nor NetBSD, I rewrote rkflash from scratch with the use of libusb-1.0, so you can now read and write your rk2818-based tablet's flash memory under Linux (also w/o the need to root your tablet). Credit for...

Now your going to put your tablet in flash mode and then using this perl script, you can dump all parts of the ROM.

                  First Problem

the lsusb command is seeing my device as
                  Bus 001 Device 019: ID 2207:0000
                  it should be
                  Bus 001 Device 019: ID 2207:290a
I am probably not getting the 10bG3 into flash mode by pressing the up volume switch
this does have a reset switch
                  any suggestions
when set storage menu to camera mode lsusb
                  Bus 001 Device 019: ID 2207:0002
when set storage menu to mtd mode lsusb

What is the full list of USB devices when you run lsusb?

You have to be in FLASH mode to get the correct ID.
Holding volume up, hit the reset pin hole for about 1 second and release the pin hole. Hold volume up a few more seconds then release volume up. Screen will be black and not show anything.

                    Mine shows up as

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 007 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0409:005a NEC Corp. HighSpeed Hub
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 045e:075c Microsoft Corp.

                    Bus 001 Device 007: ID 2207:290a

The last one is the Tab. for me.

Now you have to run the perl script with sudo or you will get permissions denied.

Also when you compiled rkflash if it is local dir then you need to edit the perl script ane replace rkflashtool with ./rkflashtool
In several places in the script.

In the first line of that perl script remove the # in front of
$DUMP=1; #Uncoment to actually dump the partitions, otherwise dry run, ie parse parameters
                    To actually make it dump.

If your device is showing up with a different USB device ID you can edit rkflash tool.

In the proceedure MAIN there are these 2 lines

                        if (!(h = libusb_open_device_with_vid_pid(c, 0x2207, 0x290a)))
                        if (!(h = libusb_open_device_with_vid_pid(c, 0x2207, 0x281a)))
                        fatal("cannot open device\n");

Change the ID to match what lsusb is saying.

Bus 001 Device 030: ID 2207:0000 is the device that appears after connecting the Arnova, otherwise it is not there.

I will try the the reset pin hole procedure.
I am not having any permission problems or file not found and the compile worked fine business I have uncommented the perl script already. I placed the scripts in /usr/local/bin and am runing as root so no problem with access.

The only problem is 0000 instead of 290a
somehow aandroid is blocking the proper usb id
If pin hole does not work I will try changing the script to match the lsusb. I got my doubts about that one, but I will try
