Arnova 9G2 Finless Bob's "GingerComb" Custom ROM Version 2.1 Release

OK folks, with the success of my "GingerComb" ROM for the Aronova 10G2, by popular vote the next Arnova tablet to get this ROM is the 9G2.

To stop confusion now, THIS IS NOT ICS! It is a GingerBread Kernel with a Honeycomb system! However, you 9G2 people that upgraded to the 9G3 ICS ROM, you might want to give this ROM a go! In my opinion with 512KB RAM, it vastly out performs ICS.

I feel really good about this port even though I do not have a 9G2 and cannot fully test it. Using my 10G2 kernel it boots and everything seems to work. Additionally the scripts I wrote to make this ROM worked 100% flawless on the 9G2! So thats good news. It means other than the kernel, the ROMs are almost identical!
I think this should work just as good as it does for the 10G2!

PLEASE READ the README.TXT for instructions and what this ROM is about!

REMEMBER! Just like most my ROMs that have major changes to it, ERASE IDB and FLASH THE LOADER! Do this before reporting any problems! You can have screwy things happen if you do NOT erase IDB. Loader is also very important!

Now this is a BETA TEST ROM! I cannot fully test everything! So you are CRASH TEST DUMMY'S

When reporting problems please try to be as detailed as possible! If there is no detail to your problem and the steps you took to make the issue happen, I cannot help much. So to help make this ROM better for everyone, please be a good tester and document the issue as best you can!

Also those that know how to use ADB or pull the logcat file, this will help a lot! So if you know how to do this when testing, please supply a logcat dump.

So you know this is not my 2.1 ROM! It is a 2.0 BETA ROM!
1) It is NOT debloated
2) It has older Google Files which can be updated by the Google Play store
3) It does not have ClockWork Mod
4) etc..... It was made for BETA testing and I did not want to make too many changes for the test.

Finally after testing and any fixes needed, I will update the ROM to what I call V2.1
It will be debloated
It will have ClockWork mod
It will have App Injector to put back stuff
It will have all the latest Google files and APPs.

Browser = starting creates a forceclose
Have you any Idea?

When you flashed did you first erase Idb, also did you select the loader at the top of the flash screen ?

Also it is important when you have done this and the Rom has flashed, reboot immediately after that.

Yes.... first make sure wifi is setup FIRST!
Then use the "accounts and sync" in the settings menu and setup your google account BEFORE trying to use the play store. This is the proper way to do it on this ROM unlike the original 9G2 where you did not have accounts and sync settings!

After you do this you may need to go into "manage Applications" and clear the cache on:
Browser app
Google Play Store
Google Services Framework

Can confirm Bob, the above post is correct. Just tried your ROM on my G2 and it's perfect up until the point you try to sign into gmail (via accounts and sync) and it spews out this error:
"Sorry! The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

After clicking the force close button, it just comes up with a box in the middle saying Google sign-in and just sits there.

Hope that helps with diagnosing the problem.

Hi Bob,

I was using your ICS ROM and want to give this new ROM a try, due the lack of RAM in ICS; I set wi-fi with no probs but I had the same issues as n14 mention before, stock browser = force close just opening; also I went directly to sign in in gmail prior open Play store and got a force close; in account sync same thing, with any mail account not just gmail, also hotmail; whith play store same thing could not log in in my gmail account. Looks faster than ICS, at least with the lack of RAM on the 9G2. The stock email client works OK, added the gmail account with no issues, camera is working, gallery is working but with a black wallpaper, sound recorder working, maps not working = force close; voice search working, but as soon open the browser create a force close. I don't know how to do a log cat, so i cannot give you more feedback apart from what I said before, I will go back to ICS to get it working again, but i can keep testing the fixes.

OK cool..... I can debug this. I flashed the 9G2 beta ROM using my 10G2 kernel and I can recreate the issues.

So I will be working on these today.

Ladies and Gentleman, these browser and login problems are fixed!

Took me a little time but locgat showed the way!
It was a simple tweak in init.rc

I am closing this BETA 1 Post and will be making a new BETA 2 post once I have the new ROM uploaded.
