Market Fix for Cube U9-GT2 & Compatible Tabs


This is a market fix if you find that you cant find apps like BBC News, ITV Player, Games
on the Playstore. What this fix does it tricks the market into thinking that your tablet is a Samsung galaxy, so you should get a greatet choice of apps. But remember that does not mean to say that they will all work, but most should.

This build prop is designed for Finless Gingercomb Rom!

You will need a filemanager on your tab that supports root access, like File Expert.


1) Download the file at the bottom of this post.
2) Using your file manager make sure it is set to read/write
3) Go into /System and find the build.prop and rename it to build.prop.old(Just in case)
4) Now copy the build.prop from the link and copy it to that same location.
5) Check that permissions on that file are all selected(Some file managers remove them)
6) Now go into settings/applications/manage application/all
7) Find Google Playstore, and force stop it, than clear cache(leave data)
8) Find Google services framework and force stop it, than clear data
9) Reboot!


Now when you log back into the market you will have a greater choice of apps and games

I am using your great Cube 9GT GB Finless 1_5 Rom and I am so happy with it since I flashed my tablet. I noticed just one problem- I can't use my 3G dongle now with wakym and proxy32's mods I did not have this problem.Can you help me please?

And one more thing - the idea with this fix is great. Just I can not use it right now,told you why

All I did was ROOT the ROM and convert the file system to EXT4. So if 3G sticks don't work it going to be the same for the stock Cube Gingerbread 105 ROM I used to make this ROM. Wackmy's ROM is ICS and a different kernel and it may have 3G support.

Daman, so I finally figured out why I cannot ever see ITV Player. It's not all what tablet model you are faking in build.prop. Looks like it uses your time zone and possibly even your IP address range!!!!

Here is what the app says:

You must be in the UK to view our programmes. Unfortunately we’re unable to show our content to users outside the UK. People in some regions will be restricted to only viewing ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 programmes.

and later:
We are also looking to providing support for Honeycomb 3.x tablets.


So a standard gingerbread ROM should be compatible. Remember when You asked me to fix the ROM so when it first booted it was not in Chinese? Well I edit the build.prop in my ROM and changed these 3 things:

ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US

This above sets the default language! But then I also changed the time zone!

It was this:
persist.sys.timezone=Asia/Shanghai

And I changed it to this:
persist.sys.timezone=America/Los_Angeles

I think this is why you did not see ITV Player with my ROM until you changed your time zone or used a build.prop that said UK or something for persist.sys.timezone=

Now with that said Google could possible be looking at IP address blocks and deciding. I have not fully tested yet to see but that is possible too. This is why the APP "Market Unlocker" allows you to use a proxy so Google cant tell where you are!

Hi,

I tried to install the Fix on my U9GT2 and stupidly the device was switched of right after I renamed the Build.prop to Build.prop.old. When I rebooted it, it keeps looping the boot logo and doesn't boot up. How can I correct this problem? PLEASE HELP..

Are you using the Gingercomb Rom?

You can just re flash your tablet but you will lose everything you installed.

If you wait for Bob to come online he can advise you more so you don't lose your apps

Thanks. No, I'm still using the ICS stock Rom that came with it originally... I'm only a Novice+ in this thing and I truly hope Bob can lead (guide) me through the steps...or my daughter will kill me...I'll gladly donate..

You can flash bobs new Ics Rom for your tablet that is way better than the stock Rom that came with your tablet

First if you have not already you need to install the drivers. Download this first bobs Rom

In the firmware folder is a read me file. Read through this to install the Rom. The Rom has had all the Chinese rubbish taken out and many improvements.

If you get stuck installing the drivers follow this guide

In the first part of the guide is starts with getting your tablet into flash mode skip the first few lines as that is for the Arnova tablet. But to get your Cube into recovery to start installing the drivers in bobs firmware folder turn your tablet off. Press the off button for ten seconds if your tablet is in a boot loop.

Now plug in your USB cable to your tablet. Press and hold the volume minus button. Keep holding it and plug your tablet into your pc.
Now release the volume after 5 seconds

At this stage follow the guide above to get the drivers installed.

When installed in into the firmware folder and start the rk tool. Just follow bobs instructions in the read of file

Plug tablet into pc

Wait 5 seconds

Release the volume minus

Now your tablet is in flash mode

Sorry, no luck...now I'm really desperate...I would really love to restore the tablet to it's original state before trying flashing rom again...to begin with, the tablet still doesn't boot, it shows the 1st Logo than continues to the "No Cube No Funny" under chinese script and this is flashing continuously and doesn't progress from there to the lock screen. When I followed your recovery steps I saw on the screen a Yellow android with the open container next to it, open on top with a keyboard under and a Red triangle on it with an Exclamation mark inside.

I followed Bob's steps but could not install the drivers, I get an error message: "Windows was unable to install your CUBE" and reffers me to the manufacturer.

Obviously, I'm stuck and my only option now is to first restore the tablet to working condition and continue from there...I'm desperate to get past this flashing boot image and see the lock screen.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

PS. Also it seem I can't even turn it off now...after pressing the power on button for 3 minutes, as soon as I let go, it starts on its own. I believe the culprit is the renamed file "build.prop.old"
