I just bought a Next Book 8 If I look at the "Storage" there is .98Gb internal storage, and 4.55 "Nand Flash" storage.
How is this 8gig of memory??
The thing is full with just a couple of apps.

You are correct...
4.5 GB is allocated to the internal SD card partition for storing media (music, videos, books, game data etc...)
Only 1 GB is allocated to the data partition for downloading actual apps.
The rest is allocated to bootloader, boot, recovery, kernel, system, misc, metadata, parameter, kpanic and cache partitions. (All parts of the firmware, Android OS and preinstalled system apps).
I'm in the process of releasing patches to increase the data partition size by decreasing the sd card partition size.
