APK won't install - "Application not installed" message.

Polaroid Tablet PTAB7XC (Kohls) / Android ICS

Attempting to install RateBeer 1.2.2 APK. Get a message, "Application not installed".

Interestingly enough, I cannot access this app via the Play Store. I manually downloaded it, moved it into /system/app and attempted to install from Root Explorer. Receive message: "Application not installed".

I am unsure how to get more info on that message or proceed from here.

    Can anyone help?

Do you mean try to install from that directory? I tried and it did not work. Same error message.

i mean just copy the apk to data/app and reboot and look if you see the app between your application menu

Try installing it the "normal" way. Put it in the Downloads directory on your internal SD card, open the Downloads app, then tap the apk file. If your tab came with an ApkInstaller app like mine, it should offer to install it (in the correct place for user apps, not /system/app).

BTW... in Settings/Security be sure that "Unknown Sources" is checked to allow side-loading of apps.

Still did not install... same result.

                Anyone else... Help?

Surely there has to be a way to get this on OR AT LEAST figure out why it's failing?

Maybe a bad download? Or some apps require store for data and verification. Or maybe not enough ram-tablet denied. Isee the app on store with nexus 7, you might alter build.prop for another tablet.

can you detail your exact steps forbinstalling' ibcluding whether the apk is in /system/app and/or /data/app currently?

                        FIXED.

Kind of surprised noone here mentioned LOGCAT. It displays a running log of all the processes. Should be a must use for this type of thing, but I'm a Microsoft guy.. so didn't know about it until now.

After dropping to a terminal window using a terminal emulator app, I entered 'su' mode and opened logcat. In the other tab, I tried to install Ratebeer 1.22. When it failed, I switched back to the logcat window and saw that I was missing a google maps library that apparently did not come with the tablet.

So.. I ended up going to http://goo.im/gapps/ and downloaded the latest ZIP with ICS in the filename.

                        Pulled out: /system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml /system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar

Using Root Explorer, I moved these files into the same directory structure and gave both files all permissions (important). After a reboot, the install worked ..

                        Yay, Me.

Yes, alot of us know what LOGCAT is, but perhaps we didn't mention it because we were still trying to decipher what your steps to installing were to make sure they were 'correct' before going into the diagnostic portion of helping you ;-)
