NEW - N101-2 JellyBean Finless ROM 1.4 with CWM _ BETA TEST

OK folks, here is my first Finless ROM for the N101-2
This is JellyBean made from the Yuandao "official" 4.1.1 ROM

PLEASE NOTE. I CANNOT TEST THIS on my N101-1 therefor this is a BETA ROM! I do not know if it works so you guys will be TEST DUMMIES .
Please let me know how it works and then we can work on making it better!


This is ONLY for the N101-2. If you folks with N101-1 model flash this IT WILL BRICK YOUR TABLET!

Features in 1.4 ROM:

1) This has my ClockWork recovery Mod installed. If you do not want to use it DONT.
On first boot just select reboot now and be done with it!
It will not get in your way again if you do not want it!
Included is Petrus reboot tool which allows you to reboot into recovery from the OS.

Other APPs like Titanium will also reboot into recovery so if you dont want the reboot APP, you can remove it.

2) I have adjusted the parameter file for more app space! You now have a choice! 2GB or 4GB.
Read instructions below for how to shoose which in the flash tool.
By default I set up the tool for 2GB app space.

3) Since /system is now RW, I have increased it's free space to allow rooted and system apps.

4) Installed the latest working SU and SuperUser.apk

5) Debloated the ROM of the junk APPs. I also removed the Chinese and Japanese keyboards.
However in the ROM kit is APP Injector. Use that to put back what you want.
See instructions in the readme.

If this works out I can add init.d support in a later release.

This package uses a different flash tool than N101 users have been using to date. It is not RKBatchTool 1.5. It is the RKAndroidTool. We need it due to the changes I have made to the parameter file and adding ClockWork. Please follow the instruction fully to use this!

No it doesn't work yet. I got the same result earlier as Piers (flashed without errors, but didn't start after that).

Btw, I found that the flash mode instructions that you Wolfee wrote in other thread ("hold the + and plug the usb into the tab (must be off and already into the computer)") works better than the one in the readme file.

Do you get the stock kernel logo or anything?

No sorry, nothing.
To get it to life again, I flashed the stock JB and that worked fine.

The flash tool log just says that everything went fine, but could I get you something else?

Is it rebooting directly into flash mode after the flash completes? Or is it a blank screen and dead and you have to do the power off to get it back into flash mode?

I think I know what the problem might be. They had a kernel.img and a kernel in boot.img. Boot.img kernel always gets used over a stand alone kernel.img. I think the kernel.img is not valid! So I think if I take kernel from boot.img this may solve it.


Stay tuned. I am going to post a new kernel.img I want you guys to flash instead of the kernel.img I have int he ROM kit.

Sounds like a great plan!

Regarding you're question: Black screen and dead, so you have to do the power off thingy to get into flash mode (had me a bit worried, since it was my first tablet flash and it was difficult to get the stock rom download to complete successfully).

BINGO! I looked at the kernel.img supplied in the stock ROM which is what I used in my ROM kit.
It is in fact NOT a valid packed kernel. What the hell is Yuandao doing?
Why even supply a kernel.img when there is one in boot.img which gets used even if kernel.img exists. These people do NOT know how to make ROMs in my opinion!

So I pulled the kernel out of boot.img and repacked it.

This should fix the ROM.

So do this. In my ROM kit go into FinlessROM folder and delete kernel.img
Download this ZIP file and put this new kernel.img into the FinlessROM folder.
Now reflash the ROM.

Flashed OK and booted into Clockwork.
Right now seems to hang at your boot screen though (the one with "A Finless Bob Root V1.4" text)

Never doubted that you would fix the kernel problem!

I waited for what I thought was a long time, and still no fun, but I will re-flash (after a coffee) and be even more patient.

Btw, I've exited from Flash mode and just got the boot screen and have been there for a long while now.
O well, to be sure I'll do it all again with out interupting it for a really long while.

Ps. I think this is correct (had problem since I had the power cable in)
To get to Flash Mode:
1. Tablet powered off
2. USB cable in tablet
3. No power cable in tablet
4. Hold the + button on tablet
5. Insert USB cable in PC and release + button when computer acknowlege the tablet
6. Insert power cable in tablet

Ps 2: Some very minor/small observations that could be used to update the readme file in the future:
1. The "Reboot to Flash Mode" button doesn't work (I guess you already are in flash mode), you get "Device can not do Flash Mode, because it is not msc device.".
That's however no issue, since Flash Tool already says "Found RKAndroid Loader Rock Usb", so the other buttons works fine.


2. The very first screen doesn't have the readable N101 anymore, it's now all in chinese (could of course guess what is says)

Gandalf, I think I found the problem with it now not booting all the way.
They changed the parameter files for JellyBean and made cache larger! I guess Jelly needs a larger cash.
I had used the N101-1 parameter files thinking they were the same. Mistake on my part

So once again here is another update. Unzip this and replace the parameter files 2gb abd 4gb in the ROM kit with these new ones.

YOU MUST ERASE IDB anytime we mess with the parameter files!
Also make sure the flash tool is not running when you replace the parameter files. It has to run and open the new ones.

I think this will solve the boot hang. I HOPE

The first screen is the kernel boot image. Should be the same as the stock ROM. I usually mod that but I did not want to change too much first go around since I cannot test this ROM at all. It's a bitch making ROMs for hardware you do not have and cant test

Anyway, let me know how it works now with the new parameter files.
