Did you try the Android 7 beta image from Orange Pi PC resources page? I used it before on a couple boxes and I remember the wifi was working. Worth a shot I guess. You should also be able to write the image on SD card and boot from that.

Get the ROM file from a reliable source.
With the ROM file, make a USB device that can be booted.
Unplug your R69 GOLD.
While the USB drive is plugged in, press and hold the reset button.
Hold the reset button down until the bootloader menu appears.
The option to install from USB can be chosen using the arrow keys.
To begin the installation process, press Enter.
Your R69 GOLD will reboot after the installation is finished.
