I thought the issue might be linked to the dropped frames you can see counted in this snapshot. The clip is a 1080p mkv at 45 mbps (Jellyfish). The same clip runs much more smoothly in MX Player.

do u have that prob if u before u start xbmc manually hide bar?

Like many other ROMs, XBMC has problems if bottom bar is not hidden BEFORE you start XBMC.

I take heart from all your wisdom. Seems as though a solution may be within reach. I'll try hiding the navbar before opening XBMC and see how that goes.

Do we even need a navbar on a TV box?

Disappointing, drops at 45mbps, with 60 (or whatever) active cores on GPU!!?!!

What I was referring to is a fix for netflixs nav bar glitching in particular and had nothing to do with dropped frames. If you are having poor playback performance with videos my suggestion is to change your DPI in the build prop from 160 to 240.

Thanks, I followed that good suggestion before running that 1080p Jellyfish clip. The dpi change improved some things, but hasn't addressed what I fear is a conflict between XBMC and the PowerVR drivers.

I am DAMN close to a ROM for this box.

I have updated bootloader no problem, I have modified system no problem, but boot.fex is driving me NUTS! I cannot unpack it and repack it successfully! Even if I change NOTHING the new boot.fex will not allow the box to boot.

I have spent all day today on this and cannot figure out why. Any other All Winner ROMs I have done I have had no problems with boot.fex and the FEX tools. This time something has changed and I just have not figured out the problem.

So until I figure this out, no ROM. Trust me I have tweaks in boot.fex that should improve performance! So it is important I figure out this road block before releasing a ROM.

OK I cracked the problem and now can make boot.fex...

Freaking 4.4.2 and selinux permissions! That was the problem.

So... more work to do but I do expect to have a flashable IMG ROM (using Phoenix flash tool) soon!

I will work on update.zip style ROM later...

SERIOUSLY? This is how this APP does it when the ROM is not rooted... All you did was perpetuate that CRAP! It's not a permanent root and not reliable!

Just add it properly to the file system and put the proper daemon call in init.rc...

What you did is your having to call scripts that modify scripts that on boot ALWAYS have to run to do your root! That is really really stupid! It also slows down boot.... My ROM is now WAY faster at boot than the CRAP you are doing using scripts!
I have to say, had you known what your doing, all the huge amount of work you put in was for NOT and a waste of time! Seriously..... A script to modify a script.... WOA.... really really not creative!

I am NOT going to tell you how to do this but it is well documented. Take my new ROM when I release it, AND LEARN!

Also folks... the amount of CRAP I have to UNDO from this ROM is seriously a lot of work!

My new ROM boots in SECONDS! Not minutes......

There are so many MODs in .rc files in boot.fex by yuandan that really are not needed and useless.....
In fact he/she also has NO CLUE what is really needed and permissions are jacked which causes Kodi issues.....

I will fix all that as best I can!

FYI the frame skipping on MKV's is like the old days of 3188.... It's in the kernel!
It's a software decode.
If you remember PHJ Anderson's kernel patch way back on 3188 kernels.... Same thing.... Pretty sure it is anyway.
