BETA TEST ROM to test EM8 Tomato

OK, so I have not dropped working on this box yet. Sometimes I like a challenge
I also feel for folks that have it and are not getting updates. AML sources have changed a lot since the last ENY ROM.

This is a BETA TEST ROM. It's a Frankin-ROM.
But it's got all the stuff I do and more. Tweaked just for this box.
New kernel, system, etc. hardly any pieces are from ENY 6/16 release.

I am providing NO instructions because I expect anyone that is willing to flash and test this knows what they are doing. I am also not going to say what all I did to it yet either.

If testing shows this is good and people like it, I will continue to work on it and do an official ROM.

Personally, this is my favorite right now for the ENY M8. But I cannot test everything so this is where you crash test dummies come in

Only instruction is:
Download this and put it on sdcard and flash it with recovery.
DO NOT unzip this download.

First test

- smooth install
- interface feels snappy and quick
- apps installed fast from SD card (7.7 mbps transfer rate)
- wifi very good - 38 mbps

BUT

no audio...I tried PCM and HDMI Pass-through, but couldn't get sound. I stopped there.
Also power button on remote doesn't turn box on, and requires two presses to switch off the blue LED.

Kernel fix?

Do we need to use soundabout?
Does any one know how to set soundabout for spdif?

Yes indeed, Soundabout is required. Set it to Aux Digital (HDMI) in settings. MX Player doesn't seem all that smooth with it. Maybe uninstall the custom codec I'm using with it?

XBMC 13.1 Working Well

Very fluid video at 1080p on XBMC 13.1. Panning is silky, and A/V sync is spot on.

Real Potential

I think you're on to something really good with FrankenRom. If that remote power button can be made to work, everything else I tried seems slick and solid. Box runs relatively cool as well.

I'm reverting to 1.8 for now. Thanks for the fun Sunday outing!

Netflix same as previous (aware of issue in Minix group)

This box power button will never work that I can see. I used this ROM on the S89 and the power button works perfect! The reboot app I supply powers off the box fully on the s89. With this ENY M8 box, it just reboots it.

Seems the hardware is NOT going to support it.

But does it go in standby just like the stock firmware?

Turn off with Remote, Blue led stays on for about 30secs or so then goes off, waiting waiting Blue led comes back on again 30 or so seconds and continues. Button press on remote or remote KYB does not bring it back. Think part of this was one of the original issues noted with the EM8.

The Amazon Fire TV has no power switch, (on off button) you want it off, turn off power switch.
It goes to sleep after a certain amount of time hit any key and it spring back to life.

Thinking about that maybe an idea for the EM8 if possible.
Put it in a Standby mode, use remote to wake it up.

But can this be done, any Ideas or thoughts

Thanks Bob, whatever time you spend developing for this box please don't waste it on power off bug issue, as seemingly it's a brick wall of their unwise h/w instruction set. Much appreciated.
