LibreELEC & OpenELEC for Tronsmart Vega S95

    Source: Tronsmart Forum

A short manual on how to run from an external SD card Openelec system.
My Telos it works using USB keyboard and mouse. IR-remote does not work.

    github.com/150balbes/Amlogic_s905/wiki/Openelec-for-Telos

    ****************************************** Manual run Systems ******************************************

Now all images Armbian and LE has all the files for activate the multi-boot. Anything in addition to download and copy to media is not required.

    1. Download the desired image
    2. Unpack
    3. Record an image on the medium
    4. to run Android
    5. open the app "Update&Backup"
    6. Select local update and an archive on removable media (aml_update.zip)
    7. Run update
    8. System twice to reboot and start running the system from external media.
    9. If after 7-10 minutes on the monitor not to receive any messages on system startup. Turn off TV box and add in manual in the first partition (FAT) the file "dtb.img". On the media there is a directory dtb from where you can take the files and copy them to the root of the renaming of "dtb.img".

Need to pick up the option for the file system will run. Pay attention, after you add\change the dtb file, you need to try to run the system and waiting to run 7-10 minutes. If not happened, repeat with a different dtb file.

Excellent. Running from SD card.... Excellent^2
To heck with the WiFi and BT, can't wait to try it on the Meta. Dang, it'll be hours before I can get to the box.

If you have questions, ask, I will try to answer.
The method is universal for the whole platform Amlogic S905
To generate the script for other devices need the output from the command printenv from u-boot the device.

Good job, now armbian running from a S905 box sd card would be nice. For Odroid C2(same S905 chipset) there is one:
USB troubles workaround Amlogic devices are picky on SD card brand. Expect troubles with some models.

All good thanks balbes150, I will do a bit of how I set it up soon but working well.
Things noted that I believe I have not seen.

              Wi-Fi not appearing, ethernet OK.
When shutting down thru OpenELEC corruption of the SD card has been noted, this maybe due to Size/Quality of card use so more testing.

This is just a quick look so far more testing to come
              Cheers

Good post. It should be noted that DTS and Dolby HD seem to be working very well via HDMI p/t. Very quick to boot after the initial boot. And, as usual for OpenELEC, very easy on the resouces. An impressive bit of work by Balbes150. This is a value add for the S95.

Lengthy first boot to OE explained from this excerpt from Balbes150... "....Insert the card into the console, and turn on the power, when you first start the download(OE) can take a long time (depending on the card capacity), as the system will try to automatically increase the second ext4 partition on the entire space of the carrier.(means SD card unused space)...."
So it might be good to allow the time needed, exercise patience on the first run of OE.

I added the info that has colored text to add clarity.

You will not see the animated Android Man do his thing,
When done Telos will reboot, nothing obvious should have changed, all will be as it was.

Telos will sit there for a few minutes after a few reboots ETC.
                    Should then see OpenELEC.
Depending on the speed of Card it may take a few or many minutes.

I find using k400r Logitech easy

Thanks to the balbes150 for the original information and excellent effort and continual updates
                    Cheers

SD cards, Adapters and Readers (inbuilt or external usb type) are not equal and creating of these files can be frustrating.
SDFormatter is a handy utility to have on hand to format your cards.
When finish writing to SD card use the Eject option to unmount ensures the write is completed,

Hello Balbes150, of course we all thank you for this work, but how can we reward you for your work? Do you have a way we can donate funds to demonstrate our appreciation?

It is not necessary. Most importantly, there is benefit for all.

ps/ I would be grateful if you could help me to find source codes for Vega S95 to continue improving.

Are you saying that this box running this OE will passthrough DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD?
