Just installed the firmware from recovery after twrp backup

What kind of TWRP did you use, and how did you install it? Can you put original firmware to any file sharing site? Link https://dropmefiles.com/tbRmE doesn't work anymore.

I found a design fault that overheats and sometime hangs app and the os: the heatsink and vents are at the bottom but should be at the top.
Going to need some mod to cool it down.

Just installed the firmware from recovery after twrp backup original firmware from July.
Playstore is normal version, not ATV. Launcher is the same, not ATV leanback launcher as seen in the youtube link.
Junk app like gmail added, disable them at settings.
My complain for the previous firmware is that dtv app hangs the os and needs power recycle. So far i have 1 such occurance during 2 hrs use, still monitoring.
Other iptv and streaming apps works well like before.
I hope atvXperince firmware comes to this box soon, https://www.atvxperience.com.

The firmware link i received is from the seller of vontar m8s plus dvb-t2, the youtube link version is probably from mecool. Maybe mecool owner can request latest firmware from their seller.

The build date is Fri Aug 10 11.49.28 CST 2018 and comes with android tv launcher.

DTV settings on the MECOOL M8S Plus DVB - T2 / T / C TV Box Amlogic 905D 1GB RAM + 8GB ROM 2.4G WiFi 100Mbps Support 4K H.265
Just a quick run thru on setting up DTV as mentioned same as other Mecool DTV units.

Remote has all functions to set/adjust/record and must say for an IR remote appears to be working well.

We can hope for a OTA Update soon to fix this Region TV scan issue, all good so far...

But in saying that a bit of a look at the KIII and the range of frequency it scans
looks as tho the M8S is not getting correct Region info in settings to scan,
So a simple fix to a abject fail,

All in good time


And further digging i find if the region in the DTV app is set to England (how ironic) it appears to scan/detect,
The setup of tuner is basically the same as other MECOOL DTV.

When the main selling point is the DVB - T2 / T / C functionality and it doesn't work at all, then that is not flaky but abject failure.

Ram speed very slow and app kept crashing.

Youtube if updated will crash from launcher, can run form apps but then freeze after a minute
Uninstall the update and it all becomes good again..

I mentioned Netflix all good HD, 1080p 5.1
Generally ok, for a 1/8 it may struggle but so far Ok

The Only Bad at the minute is the box will not detect for local TV channel while scanning
Finds nothing I see the signal meter raise to 50% to 80% but Nothing.
If I use another Mecool box, older model, all good so something not 100% in the DTV area at the minute.
And as we know all these new boxes can be a bit flakey when they get out in the real world.

All fixed due to Region/scan error in APK or something fix further on reading.

But for what it has and can do as mentioned most likely be a good streamer

Interesting little unit,
Has its own UI on top of Android TV, usable for sure.
Also has L1 widevine, but no HDCP2.2
Netflix Plays HD 1080 with 5.1 so far tested.

Only 1/8GB might become a good little streaming unit.
Aptoide is installed, (thank you) makes it a little easy to get the apps you need as this is running ATV Google Play store ETC.

Setup Google ATV Style or quick and easy update ups OK so far, after updating Netflix still working

More tinkering as I start the Dloads etc for a bit of testing etc
