[SOLVED] Can NOT start into Armbian: Starting kernel ... and nothing happens

    Hello all,

I hope someone can help me to start into linux. First let me mention, that the matter is new to me and
english is not my native language - so please forgive me if I formulate some things bumpy.

    - WHAT I HAVE:
The box is a M96X-II mini running Android 7.1 on Amlogic S905X with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM.

    - WHAT I HAVE DONE:
    1.) I burned Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0-rc7_desktop.img.xz to a sdcard
2.) Copy the file u-boot-s905x-s912 and rename it to u-boot.ext
3.) Copy (to sdcard root directory) the file meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb and rename it to dtb.img
4.) I inserted the sdcard to the android box and fired it up.

    - WHAT I GET:
Starting kernel ... (please find full information on the photo) sry I can not upload the photo?!

Simple and lightning fast image sharing. Upload clipboard images with Copy & Paste and image files with Drag & Drop

So, that's it ... if you need more information, please let me know - I try my very best.

    Thanks for reading!

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

    Strange

Rename u-boot so can boot from external/USB...

Iam very confused by this line

    Retrieving file: /dtb/rockchip/rk 3399-nanopc-t4.dtb

How is Rockchip Blob in Amlogic Messon.....

    Best ask at Armbian Forum

Or if Balbes 150 is around

Balbes 150 Most Excellent Work !!!!

I followed this trail ... (and deleted the folders allwinner and rockship)

      Now I get this:

      ...
      Retrieving file: /dtb/rockchip/rk 3399-nanopc-t4.dtb
Skipping Armbian for failure retrieving fdt
      SCRIPT FAILED: continuing ...
      ...
      Devive 0: unknown device
      ...
      Could not initialize PNY ehternet@c:94100000

So it looks like that (without me doing anything) Armbian wants to load the wrong file (which does not fit my hardware at all).

Where did you get the info/
        4 steps in OP?

Armbian Focal ....desktop will have its own DTB?
Why do you add more DTB

Desktop will have all you need wifi/bluetooth/ethernet/etc...

I have only tested Armbian on PC or SBC

        Never on TV Box

So Iam no good to you

Sounds like you guys are using Balbes150 "development" firmware images and are NOT following the instructions, when using his IMAGES you must read the instructions detailed in his specific Armbian-forum-amlogic-post carefully because they are not the same as standard ARMBIAN installation instructions.

Hmm, I am not sure ... would a "standard" armbian start with the android box?

              Hello all,

I found a working solution for my problem!

              HOW TO ...

              - WHAT I HAVE (YOU SHOULD HAVE):
The box is a M96X-II mini running Android 7.1 on Amlogic S905X with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM.
(this could work also for android boxes with the following CPUs: Amlogic s9xxx = s905/s905X/S912)
(and also ALLWINNER H6 and ROCKSHIP 3328 and 3399. Attention: please note step 3 of me "TO DO"!!!)

              - WHAT TO DO:
              1.) I burned Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.9.0-rc7_desktop.img.xz to a sdcard
(worked fine, but I dont need desktop, so now I am happy with Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_buster_current_5.9.0-rc7.img.xz)
2.) Copy the file u-boot-s905x-s912 and rename it to u-boot.ext

3.) located in directory extlinux edit the file extlinux.conf as needed. in my case I had to add two "#" in the wrong cpu section
and delete two "#" in the correct cpu section (example):

              FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb
              APPEND root=LABEL=ROOTFS (...)

4.) I inserted the sdcard to the android box and fired it up. VOILÁ IT WORKS!

Hope this help another one ..
