Thanks to our friends at Geekbuying today we get to have a close look at the

    A95X MAX S905X2 4GB DDR4 64GB eMMC 4K Android 8.1
Support SATA 2.5 inch SSD/HDD Dual Band WiFi Bluetooth Gigabit LAN USB3.0*4 Video Recording with LED Display

    Highlights as Found:

    Android 8.1
A95X MAX is one of the first TV Boxes to run on Android 8.1 (an update to Oreo). This software update allows for a great user experience with steady performance.

    Amlogic S905X2
A95X MAX runs Android Oreo on Amlogic S905X2, an upgrade of its S905X predecessor with the same quad-core Cortex A53 cores paired with a ARM Dvalin MP2 GPU but adding VP9 hardware decoding, which is the absolute mainstream decoding formats around the global.

    DDR4 4GB RAM + eMMC 64GB
It uses a DDR4 4GB RAM and an eMMC 64GB for better performance, security and reliability.

    2.4G/5G Dual Band WiFi
With support for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band, it can transmit higher amounts of data.

    True 4K Media Player
While your average media box might only accept 1080P video playback, this gadget plays just about any 4K source.

Must say it is a impressive looking device and that remote again a real looker if i say so myself
as you will see this is loaded with ports and has the ability to take upto a 2TB HDD..
Be interesting to see how this was all works out tru sata bridge or just tagged onto USB, whatever it should be ok for the intended purpose we can hope

    Let's have a look see:

    The Box:

What's in the Box: Good looking remote

The look around: Lots of USB's and other normal goodies

    Underneath:

Pop Top: Love the Faux Copper look
May have noticed small switch above network/HDMI port: HDD location

On with the Mass destruction part of this Show and Tell
      A95X MAX S905X2 4GB DDR4 64GB eMMC 4K Android 8.1
Support SATA 2.5 inch SSD/HDD Dual Band WiFi Bluetooth Gigabit LAN USB3.0*4 Video Recording with LED Display

Must say apart from Intel Boxes that this reminds me of
I don't think I have ever had to deal with so many screws in and Amlogic Media player.
So value for money in the screw dept.

      Let's do it .

Removed the Sata Bracket and Faux Copper:

      All the outer bits removed.

      TopSide:

      Under Side:

Chips On the Under side, looks like a fan socket ?

      Sata:

      Closer

      Display:

      Ports:

Also Should mention screws are supplied to mount HDD to Bracket,

I note also it's supplied with a 2.5amp power supply, (got an AU one also) should be ample to drive HDD.
But if you load the other ports with non powered devices, with HDD installed, it may not be a happy chappy,
Using a SSD over a Platter type would also assist in less power usage.

This I will look further into later.

More after i find where the cat has flicked all the screws and get it back together..

So far so good, all back together and the usual easy startup as seen with most AMlogic 905X2,,,
Running Android 8.1 has it own UI Launcher as will see later
Root switch, and I see Upper and Lower Bars
An OTA update as I just switched on so lets see what that can do

Nothing Obvious yet found in OTA just fixes and Optimisation so who knows.
Weather fails to work with location etc.
Bench testing about the same as other 905X2 to date,
        Fast Ram read and right
Wifi and Ethernet appear all good here,
        Remote working fairly well,
Clock display not to in you face.
Temps not to bad and working ok With Logitech K400 Plus.

Let's have a look at what it has to offer.

        Ui and stuff of Interest:

        Current OTA update

        DRM: Info L3

        Ram and Storage Truth:

        WiFi and Ethernet:

        Sd Card test:

        CPU-Z:

        Antutu:

        GeekBench CPU and Compute:

        AIDA64:

            Hi guys

-pls be patient such as when you bought your device!
wait couple of days even weeks and "recognize" well your device and than make/look etc., for the "ROM"s
            do not jump it suddenly

What are you saying, you plug it in switch it on and see what it does, I have done the bassics....rest can add easy....
Still have to test USB and HDD and a few other bits...and being 8.1 and all the new stuff, have to wait for Kodi and all the others to catch up..

Air Mouse, Hmm you could say that about all media players, not a air mouse fan, each to their own. i guess.

All works pretty well with current remote or Keyboard I am finding

2.5 amps should be OK one would think,
Just depends on how many devices user plugs in that use their own power or supplied by box.
                  More test on this later,
But if your going to load it up with HDD's etc more Amps or Powered USB is always good.

1-Air-mouses especially works with all Boxes but with TV sets not work properly
or missing some of functions etc.,
I guess those Mouses right/competible works with Boxes, otherwise such as some of functions
may not work or very hardly work with Boxes and their "mouse" functions also not easy work

2-Just wondering who are the "Manufacturer" of this Box
                    like a "secret"

But if the Box works without any issue(OTA is great!!) so doesnt matter who they are

                    3-My previous Box(X99 RK3399) PSU was 3A. but some X99s come with 2A !!

                    I'v one ext.HDD(1Tb) and 2 or 3 USB3.0-disks
I do not use internal-bay(SSD/HDD) right now might be future

                    need a good PSU(selectable Voltage&Amper)

4-Thanks to Geekbuying;they sent me my Box today(within couple of days)
thru NL/Belgium Carrier service and hope end of this week or next week it will be delivered

Also thanks to their Online Chat-Box Support Service too

By the way my "N6 MAX" really big disappointment!
                    need urgently FW!

                        A few Volts/Amps test's while a few thing happening

                        Power First on Booting 500ma +/- = 1/2 amp

Add an external SSD to USB port 9500 ma +/- = 1 Amp almost

While reading SSD and Playing movie Demo anywhere from 1.05 amps to 1.3amps +/-

Installing Sata using internal port readings are much the same as one would expect
HDD does detect as USB storage.

                          Tip of the minute:
When on Desktop Long Press on any Larger Icon with OK, gives you option to change app from apps drawer.

When In Apps Drawer, long press on any APP gives you option to Uninstall.

Youtube installed from there store Playing 4k Ok.
                          Netflix of course on 480p

                            Thanks trebor

                            those are very useful infos.

-you checked YT/2160p with UHD/4K TV right??
-I'm not personally intersted in with NFlix(watch it sometimes by IPTV! and probably HD/720 or 1080
but with IPTV you wont get it real picture quality, just they say it "HD" but its not

and my parcel of A95X MAX had shipped out from Nederland on yesterday, next week delivery+

YT ended up a bit of a flop using there pre installed from that Ustore playing 4k in a would fail after 4 minutes or so then go crud.
Installed the normal from playstore 1080p it is and thats ok by me.
                              Playing on a 4k TV

Also Note the Unit using an Inbuilt Antenna on the PCB for WiFi, in theory should work well with minimal losses with no cables/connectors etc.
                              Works ok in this location.

                                Hi trebor,

Thanks for testing this box. It looks very interesting. But i need 2 specific things to work. Dolby Vision. Have you seen if there's an option for it? And HD audio(in the stock player) Do you know if that works?

                                Thanks in advance!
