Hi there. Here the review. There is DDR3 in this box.

It seems that they send the "good stuff" only to reviewers =)

I got a _2019-10-10_ board with Hynix NAND, another batch of DDR3 RAM and a even smaller heatsink* (~2.5CMx2.5CM).
Also that extra unpopulated connector is missing on this one.

The firmware on this box is awful! Very poor QA on this.

* Cannot drop down staus bar, impossible to see/clear notifications.
* Ethernet cable shown as not connected after a reboot.
* Occasional clicking/popping audio.
* ‘#’ character always visible at top of screen when playing fullscreen video in root mode.
* Q key doesn’t work when using hardware keyboard and cannot hide onscreen keyboard when using hardware keyboard.
* Some sites won’t play video (chrome or firefox) eg oomovie.net.
* No access to normal system settings menu.
* Cannot use many alternative launchers because you cannot drag icons around (apex, evie, microsoft, nova). Lawnchair and openlauncher work.
* If you install an internal drive, you will need to format it on a PC beforehand or it will not be recognised and there is no facility to format/partition the UI.
* Zero support (emailed magicsee twice with no reply after 3 months since first email).

The firmware update (20191101) appeared to fix browser and ethernet connection issues as well as hiding onsrceen keyboard when hardware keyboard is plugged in.

Some workarounds:

added lines to /vendor/bin/preinstall.sh
# Clear notifications every minute
nohup sh -c "while [ : ]; do service call notification 1; sleep 1m; done &"

add line to /vendor/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
key 16 Q

comment out line in /vendor/bin/killsudaemon.sh
#ps -A|grep daemonsu|awk '{print "kill -9 " $2]'|sh

comment out everything in /system/bin/install-recovery.sh
and add line
/system/xbin/daemonsu --auto-daemon &

To access normal settings, press volume up or down then click on the cog icon then click back arrow.

All in all I can't wait to get armbian running on this box!

If you want to use a 3.5 inch drive, the only boxes I know of are made by zidoo. They aren't cheap but you get what you pay for (dualboot, updates, hdmi in, support). The Z10 takes a single 3.5in up to 12Tb. These boxes don't use amlogic though, instead you get realtek SoC.
