Unfortunately, it should be done manually via adb by copying su binary etc. Because box with 20171213 stock rom may be having recovery and boot partition locked, so it's not possible to install custom recovery like twrp neither to install root from it. The easy way is to install the rom I mentioned which is rooted already.
