If anyone running Openelec 5.08 on the Zotac CI 320 has been able to power on the box with a Zotac remote (MCE), please tell me the secret...

The solution I found required using the Zotac remote and USB IR extender that came with another Zotac box - the Nano AD 11. I turned off the internal IR receiver (CIR) in the BIOS but left the 'wake from CIR' setting on. This, paradoxically, lets the remote switch the box on and off under Openelec...but it leaves you without a remote to navigate with. However, add the IR extender, and the Zotac remote controls everything - power ON/OFF and navigation.

I then went further and added Pulse Eight's HDMI-CEC adapter, which works perfectly with my Samsung TV. Now, the Zotac remote turns box and TV on or off and can be used for navigation. So can the Samsung TV remote..

Hmm...it's a nice set-up now, but after some effort and expense. And what it does by way of switching, a humble M8 box also does straight out of the box.

I think you talk about the USB version?

Yes, that's the CEC adapter. It works without drivers on Openelec, which has libcec built in. They also make an internal circuit for the Intel NUC, which would be neater, but this external rig is not too bad, and works flawlessly.

After developing that workaround to get the Zotac remote controlling everything, I found that versions of Openelec after 5.0 have a bug in the kernel that doesn't play well with Baytrail GPUs, producing random freezes. I installed version 4.2.1 (Gotham 13.2 and an older kernel) and no more freezing. I've reported both "discoveries" to Zotac USA, and I hope they'll patch the BIOS quickly to deal with both issues.

Video performance is superb, as Moulin has so ably documented. 1080p playback from any source, including streams, is near-flawless and fast-forwarding is usually possible and glitch-free. Audio is pretty good; but the fact that you have to choose between SPDIF or HDMI output and and cannot use both together is a pain. This is probably the one area where an Android box is superior.

Update: Seek and ye shall find...I looked up dual audio on Openelec and, to my surprise, found there's a boatload of custom distros here:

Will try the generic x64 and post my results.

Hi Zahir, sorry for the delay work, for yours questions :

              1) use Legacy, ( UEFI, is just for faster startup, best graphic BIOS, install android on ssd, ... )
              2) no format, or use "parted magic" for format your ssd ( NTFS ).
              3) No lag with OpenELEC in USB, for me ( but I no longer use OpenELEC, in usb )

              ------------------------------------------

For me, good cofiguration is (legacy) :

              1) Install ( WIN 8.1 or Win 10 ) + kodi = very good

              2) Install amiduos in windows 8.1/10( resultat is best, but it takes a minimum 4 gb RAM in windows 8.1/10) video 720P is very good.

              3) install "intel driver update utility" in windows 8.1/10,
              link : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...Update-Utility
check occasionally new drivers and install.

              4) For players video in windows 8.1/10 :
