    Video Player and codec packs...

    Hi,

I try to find out, which ways exists to play videos at these kinds of boxes (Intel with Windows)...

    Player
    Kodi http://kodi.tv/download/
    VLC Media Player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
    Media Player Classic (MPC)
    - original http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/
    - mod http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli2/
    - HomeCinema (MPC-HC) https://mpc-hc.org/
    - Black Edition (MPC-BE) http://mpcbe.sourceforge.net/

At MPC I have no idea which version I should use?
I think it also depends on if and which codec pack I have installed?
Does there exists any other/better MPC mods?

    Codec packs
    LAV codecs https://code.google.com/p/lavfilters/
    K-Lite Codec Pack http://www.codecguide.com/

Should I install a codec pack and if yes, which one (and/or does exists any better pack?)?

K-lite has been around for years covers just about most that are worth using as VLC
Both Good in my opinion did the job well
As well as the others you have mentioned

I guess its a matter of the feel and what you expect, features and what you are comfortable using.

Have you had a look at Plex cost some bucks but again works well.

    Cheers

Yes, but e.g. I (and I think others too) don't like all these extremely communicative MS products (I don't trust them)

K lite mega pack, which includes MPC and VLC for me.

Potplayer is also very good and worth investigating.

              I prefer..
              Sharky007 and Smplayer portable..
Note: at shark007 forum are tweaks posted for various GPUs... to get the best pic

              But perhaps,
You can test and report what gives the best results.. ?

Do we really need a lot of Codecs in this day and age, most stream or we convert to suit our needs.
Not saying we don't them just are they as important as they used to be, some newer format maybe
A good player should be able to handle most.
                Just a thought.
                Cheers

Because of Intel I only found this
Intel specific CPU/GPU users can select 'Use FFDshow's codec' on the H264 TAB, and then go to the Config TAB,
use the button for [FFDShow Video config], click on the word 'libavcodec' next to H264/AVC and select Intel QuickSync
                  Or
users can open the LAV video Configuration from the H264 TAB
                  - in the upper right under Hardware Acceleration, change None to Intel QuickSync
These are 100% CLEAN Distributions Please consider donating. A coffee and donut will do. I have implementing an Auto-Update feature that will allow users to update all distributed files directly from

I switched to Pot Player to check it.
Good interface and playback, like most of these players with the goods

PotPlayer is great, 1080p video at 15% CPU (z8300) and with a tablet you can swipe forward/back to track the video more or less depending on how many fingers you use.

Just so people know the default players (Windows Media Player and the Films and TV app) can run all H264 (MP4 and MKV), H265, and DIVX/XVID. That's 99% of everything people actually watch. They also use less CPU and battery than most others.
