Samsung branded, so it overprize it in that price range maybe is better a pc. But sure that like media center it could be a good option for some people.

sound like you are not a sammy fan not offence intended. but if you want a quad core the price would be higher .beside that more core does not mean nothing.
look at other media player
Popcorn Hour A-200 Chipset Model Sigma 8643 @ 0.67Ghz Single Core i own it play any thing without any problem.
WDTV Live (2011) Chipset Model Sigma 8670 @ 0.7Ghz Single Core,one nice litter box.
Apple 5s A7 idual-core chip.
instead got the minix7 and i am having serious problems playing 1080 videos among other issues.
about the price event it is to high in my opinion. look at all the fixtures on it. i don't believed there is one yet on the market like this.

Easy, easy guys. No one is talking about the performance of a dual core, but the price policy. Look at the difference between rk3066 and rk3188 devices, almost twice between generations. Can you imagin what it would be for a quad from Sams? Now don't tell me that you would buy it even though it's a double core for such a price, you'd feel yourself being had. There is aways a cheaper and a better choice out there (odroid xu f.ex.).

Secondly, you mention sigma devices. I'd love to see you browsing or downloading torrents or doing something else apart of watching movies. So, your point here is very subjective. Other people may use those devices not only for watching movies like you do.

As for the x7, it was really disappointing to learn that those rockchip buggers would use the same old gpu when they announced rk3188. So, after having owned a rk3066 I abandoned the idea of buying their next generation. I just gambled for a31 and do not regret my choice.

And Bob, with all my respect, the number of cores does matter, it is all about the tasks you're getting it for.

I don't think that I would pay that price for it.i will wait for price to come down. And if when I test it this weekend it does meet my expectations. (It goes back to store after testing)
Regarding the price it is not that much off
If your take in consideration all the extra components and services that you got.

Cortex A15 is one hot processor. As a dual core probably faster than most quad cores. I look forward to your report especially on how restrictive Samsung's software is.

Considering how crappy Android is with multi tasking it almost doesn't do a damn thing to have 4 over 2 at least right now. Sheesh we are just now seeing JB with a multi window version.

ok guys i just have been playing with this all week end.
first impressions.

the good
build quality is nice.
it play any thing that it is on my NAS including 1080 videos in mkv,mp4,m2ts you name it.


the bad
it need to be root it.
google play is broke, you can only install just a few app. (you can side load what ever you want).
the homesync app for sync all your stuff from your phone only works on gallaxy note 3, i do have a SG4 and only works partially.(dont know it is because i am using custom rom)
try xbmc but root is need since i am using this method where you have to put some files in an area where permissions can not be set.

i was able to use odin and flash a newer firmware.
i am going to keep for two weeks before return it just in case the gurus in here want to help root it.

if any thing else is/are need it just let me know.

y try superoneclick,kingo,ExynosAbuse,Framaroot trying to root it but all off them fail.

if any body have a question please don't hesitate.


update;
install a 4.3 custom rom on my phone and now homesync app is working like it is suppose to
