    Rooting Measy A5A Android Player

    Hi,

    I found a post while an unregistered user and have not been able to find it again - taking requests for unrooted roms.

    If you are still interested, I am attempting to root a Measy A5A Android Player. The stock ROM is at: http://depositfiles.com/files/lzjvrhr2n

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Whats the specs on this? Is it a RK29 or something else?

      Hey Bob,

      It is RK2918 1.2GHz CPU, 2Gb NANDFlash, 3 USB, 1 HDMI, 1 Optical Out, Android 2.3.1.

      I have found a dozen rooted roms that half work. Either I loose sound, Remote functionality, or Hardware Video decoding. Nothing works properly.

      I am new to android, but I tried extracting the stock ROM to root and repack, but the system.img seems to be encrypted. This is beyond me. Also tried Gingerbreak, z4root, Superoneclick but to no avail.

      Any help would be appreciated.

        I downloaded the stock ROM from your link. I will work on it this week after I do the Cube for Damo.

        So when you flash the stock ROM it puts it back and everything works?

          I cant unpack this ROM file. All my RKunpack tools fail with invalid signature. AFPTool fails with CRC check. Wendal's tool fails with bad CRC. It does have the proper RKFW header so it looks like a proper update.img but again it's failing to unpack.

          I will try downloading the ROM again and make sure the download from that lame file sharing place did not cause the problem. I have several download timeouts and retries

            There is something wrong with Dropfile today or something. I have downloaded this ROM 4 times now and every time it is a different file size. NONE of them unpack.

            Do you know how to FTP? If so I will PM you a location to upload the ROM.

              I thought it was just me......

              Hi Bob,

              Thanks for the effort. The image restores perfectly using RKBatchTool 1.3.12.0 and everything works perfectly. If I copy the image to the SD Card, the Android GUI prompts me to delete it with a message that it found an invalid image.

              I also tried RK29xxImageTools_v2.1, and the Wendal Mod version to unpack the image, root, and repack - this failed too.

                If RKBatch tool says the file is OK then I am sure I can unpack it. Batch tool checks the RKFW CRC so that has to be OK.

                Problem for me is this depositfiles download is for sure a problem as 4 times now I have a different file size so I am NOT getting a good file.

                I am trying one more time but if you want me to try more, I will need you to upload what you have to a reliable place via FTP. Otherwise I am going to give up as without a known good file, it's wasting my time.

                      YES! Successfully unpack baby!

                      So now I will have a look at this ROM. It uses a very OLD loader version 1.63

                      So what do you want out of this? Like my 1.4 ROM with fast EXT4 etc?
                      Debloated 1.5 ROM with appInjector?
                      Google Play installed?

                      Since it is not a tablet, how do you run and install apps from Google Play if you had that installed?

                        OK another CRAP FS file system. This one is very odd. I have seen 5 flavors of cramfs now (we call them crap FS )

                        The idea is to STOP people from rooting by modifying CramFS so simple linux guys can't do it. I have tried all 5 of my CramFS extrators and they fail a CRC check.

                        HOWEVER I can mount it and I can copy all the files out except 2 that give an IO error in linux. But we can beat them at this game

                        So are you able to install an app called ES File Explorer or root file explorer? You do not have to be root to copy these files. Please from the Player copy these 2 files out to your PC. Zip them and put them in your dropbox.

                        /system/framework/framework-res.apk
                        /system/usr/share/bmd/RFFspeed_501.bmd

                        Once I have these 2 files directly off the player, I can make you a ROM.
