    WARNING, NEWS, and ROM - New model UG802 different wifi!!

    Folks, we have a new model of UG802 out now and no stock ROM is available yet.

    In Settings > About device the system ROM is:
    RK30_ANDROID4.1.1-SDK-V1.00.1015
    rk30sdk-eng 4.1.1 JRO03H eng.box.20121119.121544

    I cannot tell what kernel version it is as the kernel for this will not boot on my original UG802.

    DO NOT FLASH the UG802 1.7 ROM or any other UG802 ROM or you will loose wifi. The new model uses 8188 Wifi chip.

    Thanks to Freaktab user Ken Hashizume for getting me a ROM dump. I will be making a stock ROM for you all for this new model. This will allow you to at least fix your stick if you flashed the 1.7 ROM.

    Then I will work on rooted ROM. 2dark4u is aware now of this new model and he can let you all know when he can make a new 1080 kernel.

    Ken, your boot.img and system.img are good. kernel.img looks good but it will not boot on my UG802 at all. I get 2 penguins and it is stuck.

    I even re-RKCRC'ed the kernel to be sure and looking at kernel.img in a hex editor it looks good!

    So I am unsure the stock ROM I make for UG802-2 will work as I cannot test kernel on my original UG802.

    This is odd because we know original UG802 ROM works on new UG802-2. I would think it would work the other way too but possibly not due to possible memory and other board changes.

    Are you willing to test the stock ROM kit I make?

      Stock ROM

      Thanks to Ken and his DUMP I made a stock ROM for you clone guys.

      This is not rooted or anything. Just a stock ROM for you.

      ROM DOWNLOAD -> CLONE UG802 Stock ROM (228 megs)

        I can make a kernel for this version of hardware too, but I need to know for sure the WIFI chip model. Someone with new UG802, please read in dmesg log or on wifi chip itself a model number, because I can't make a kernel for unknown HW.

          It is dmesg of UG802 new type.
          It seems that WIFI chip has not changed if dmesg is seen.

                What is very strange is wifi. If wifi hardware is the same, why wont wifi work on original ug802 kernel?

                  It seems that WIFI chip has not changed if dmesg is seen.
                  the driver may work with little different HW but will show same string. to be sure we need someone to read markings from WIFI chip. to be sure 100% it's same.

                      UG802-V2

                      This is how the UG802-V2 (or what) look like.

                      I had WiFi problems, I think this new version has this problem, the antenna gets interference if its in the case.

                      If you have WiFi problems (like I had), not connecting, or connect but no Internet, then follow this:
                      404 Not Found

                      (You need to get the WiFi antenna out of the box)
                      This solved the problem for me.

                      With the new UG802 you can put it into "flash mode" with press the reset button and connect the USB to PC. You might want to update your README FIRST.TXT

                        OK if it's same WIFI chip I see only one big difference in PCBA of new UG802 there id EEPROM soldered to it on one of photo's I think EEPROM is used to store settings and mac address of WIFI. so WIFI uses it but not the MAC from kernel driver, on UG802 no such EEPROM so this WIFI may not work without it.

                        To be sure I need someone to flash finless 1.7 and bring to me dmesg log, to see where is the problem with WIFI on boot.

                          That is one AT88SC 0104CA.
                          Do you know any solution for the WiFi problem? If the antenna is in the chassis of the UG802 then it stops working. There must be some interference.
                          It starts working again, only when I get the antenna out of the chassis and turn OFF and ON the WiFi in the settings.

                            UG802 with the newest hardware... waiting on a new ROM by the infamous Finless Bob!

                              It is dmesg of new UG802 which burned finless 1.7.
                              kernel is "kernel_1080_CPU1272_GPU466_RAM1120."
                              boot is "boot1080."
                              It has come out and burned.
                              Naturally, WIFI is in the state which cannot be used.
