One of the devs that persevered with the Geekbox development, Followmsi, produced some firmwares for it also created a TWRP recovery, where you can backup the whole image and then use TWRP on another Geekbox to restore.
This is his firmware repository, where you will find TWRP that can be flashed using the android tool on it's own to replace the stock recovery (remember to rename the TWRP download to receovery.img before flashing).
