Only video playback runs at 4K.
The Android OS runs with either a 720p or 1080p framebuffer.
Do you get 4K resolutions on other firmwares then I can investigate?

Thanks, I see. No, I'm using this current one from this thread, released a few days ago

You can also try the Lollipop firmware which runs very well and test.
If it allows 4K then I can try to get a patch to enable it for Marshmallow too but I think 1080p@60 is the maximum.
Do an 'EraseFlash' then 'Upgrade' to flash the firmware.

If you like Marshmallow better then you can
Do an 'EraseFlash' then 'Upgrade' to flash the Marshmallow firmware again.

Thank you, I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Interestingly, if I run built in NTMC (Nov 7 build), under System-Info, it states running at 1920x1080, but if I run Kodi 16.1 (April 24 build), it states 1280x720. Both apps running on the same
          HPH NT-N8 box, running MM, 15/12/2016 v1.2.

I assume this is a Kodi issue???

Yes, Kodi has had incorrect resolution reporting for a while.
You will see when you play a video and 'auto frame-rate switching' is enabled in NTMC's Settings - Playback Options it will switch the resolution to that video's one.
Eg. your resolution is set to 720p@50hz and when you play a 1080p@60hz video, it will switch automatically to that resolution while the video is playing and then back again when the video stops.
You can enable/disable that setting or adjust the period between 3-5 seconds to get better audio/video sync.

Thanks on new update. What's easiest way to restore your original setup/settings of all apps etc after flashing new ROM?

You can backup all your installed apps with MiExplorer. It has a category to show all your apps.
For Kodi/NTMC you can install the backup addon from the Programs menu to backup your whole configuration.

You can then use a multiple app installer app from Google Play to install all your apps in one step without clicking and first waiting for each app to install manually.

I can't seem to find this in build prop in latest release?

I removed it, but you can add it manually.
You will then not have a navigation bar.

Thanks, don't need the nav bar. Add the line to anywhere in build prop?
