So I've been testing roms on my H96 Max+ 4/32 these past couple of days as the stock rom sucks. I've tried

I hold the reset button and plug in, but the device is not detected at all. No change in device manager. I tried multiple versions of android tool and factory tool. Nothing recognizes it. The flash on the device has no pins coming from it but I have tried shorting virtually everything that looks like a contact on the board. Nothing happens. The board is RK3328_8D4_V1.1 20180703 if that helps anybody.
Every time I flashed a ROM (I went back and forth a few times, trying to fix bugs with files from stock rom, reflashing them a few times, etc.) I used the restore option so it completely wiped the flash, avoiding partition layout problems.
Also, after a few flashes, the device stopped booting into maskrom mode with the reset button, it would boot into loader instead. This wasn't a problem, as factorytool booted it into maskrom by its self, but still worth noting.
