Just do a RMA ( send unit back )

Probably a Quality control Issue... or lack off

    Good luck

    Hello Friends:

I need some suggestions. (Thank you in advance).

So I purchased the H96MAX RK3566 with 8G RAM and 128G SSD from Bangood.

It's to upgrade my older H96MAX RK3399 model, which I love (since 2017).

But I think I received a defective unit.

    PROBLEM:

I literally moved the Ethernet and HDMI cables FROM the old RK3399 model TO the new RK3566 model (literally just transitioned the cables over), and the new unit struggles to get about ~20Mbps on a speedtest, while the old unit easily reaches ~320Mbps. Same physical Ethernet cable and port.

Then I said: Let me try using its 5.0G WIFI to see if the issue is unit's the NIC/Ethernet card.

I got the same result: It struggles to get ~20mbps, and most times less than that. The unit was right next to the WIFI antenna, so it had maximum signal strength.

Now, my home network is as well-designed and tight as they come:
    • IP-Assesses are all statically assigned (IP, Gateway, Netmask, DNS, etc).
    • DHCP is disabled everywhere
    • Everything is Ethernet connected except for a laptop and two phones
    • All MAC-Addresses are blocked except for those that I whitelist.
    • For WIFI, 2.4G radios are turned off, and only a 5.0G radio is enabled.
    • I disable SSID broadcast and enter that manually.
    • And, finally, I have a 63 character WIFI password, which I manually enter into WIFI devices.
Because of those measures, my network performs extremely well (streaming and otherwise), and I never have issues. Things just work, and for years.

I point all of that out to show that's its not the network. But just in case, I even disabled the Firewall, the MAC-Address filtering, etc. (just in case). That didn't help.

It seems like something in my new H96MAX RK3566 unit, behind both the NIC/Ethernet and WIFI electronics (and/or their drivers) has a problem. That's the only think I can think of. The unit has the latest Android 11.x firmware (I checked for updates).

Perhaps friends here have other ideas? I appreciate it. Thank you.

not an expert , but developer , and joined the forum trying to find some help from other developers , experienced android/linux users who understand a thing or two on how things work ..

you see an rk3566 android box ..... I see a customized rk3566 sbc ... alot of single board makers are switching to rk3566/8 , even zidoo is releasing a new rk3566 based box , they usually also release source code .. will wait

since these box makers are not so interested on working on their firmwares , but SBC's and rockchip sources are being updated with fixes ... all I wanted is to either build a firmware with all the fixes applied my self for each box (since firmware released contain each device DTB file ) , device tree blob , this file can be decompiled and used when building new images

I tried this and proved it working when I took armbian TV images , and changed the configuration to load my device DTB instead of stationpc-m2

if you compare both boards .... the difference is , station-m2 (firefly-rk3566-roc) have more things added ... like pci express slot , or nvme slot , sata , different wifi chip , camera and lcd ports , etc

all these different ports are actually configured inside that dtb file ... but .. not in my device dtb file .. but aside from that .. all the rest .. is there .. carbon copy .. same addresses , same pinctl ports , same voltage settings ..

they actually made it really easy ... I asked for help from mo123 .. no answer ... sent private message , offered my DTB , nothing .. no reply

I don't think these boxes are bad at all ... just don't like misinformation ... the "settings" app in this boxes is a modified app , not the original android system settings app .... the right way to check if there is a EDID issue is by looking at /sys/class/graphics/card0/HDMI-A-0/modes , that file gets filled with all the resolution modes the connected screen sends through EDID to the box

just saying .. I saw the reviews , even before ordering my box ... technozone included ..

my box is working fine with the iptv channels I watch , or series / movies (even 4k hdr) streamed through stremio , smartyoutube next works using hardware decoder ... I wish mo123 answered my question .... instead of answering "manufacurer said ... blah blah"

You guys never buy any of this "new" RK3566 Boxes(in fact they all produced at same factory too!)

Note;ignore it Trigu75 as what he say;because of he is expert/pro Box user!
but 90/95% ppl are as "normal" user
So,there is a lot of diffrence between Trigu75 and us

BTW,this Russian guy(or Ukranian guy) well known and very handy and trusted man

    what he said "trash" right+

he also said that same thing to "X96 X6"(another trash RK3566 Box and I got this Box and its Bricked-thanks to Banggood Co. they paid me full refund)

This guy destroyed X96 X4 Box!
just watch it and laugh hahhaaaaa

Seems that RK3566 Boxes is over
like RK3399 destiny in the past!

if y'r looking a new and kinda cheap Box than go to AML 905X4(BUT I never say these are perfect!)
or wait new Shield(probably they will release very soon)

    1) , this is from MAY .... before all the firmware updates

    2) this is the guy who took the hk1 rbox r2 box , and shoot it saying HDR was not working , no 4k60p ,no 5g wifi and other things ....

no idea what is the deal with that guy , all is garbage for him , I guess that's how he makes money and bringing viewers / subscribers

when in real life ... my box have everything working just fine , wifi , HDR , and 4k60 (with latest firmware on july) .

and not only that .. is the only box which came with ROOT enabled , and even is able to boot a different OS from sdcard (that was built for firefly-roc-pc-3566 / stationpc m2)

compiled libmali , mpp , ffmpeg with rkmpp support , mpv , ligdrm and librga and playing smooth hardware decoded videos under armbian linux

    my 4k60 / HDR pictures ... were taken using a samsung 4k TV ..

and the fact that all these boxes , come from the same factory is what pisses me off

it's one maker , running the same command , with different "software customizations" depending the "brand name

even the so called "ROM DEVELOPERS" from here .. are keeping it all a secret just like the chinese .. don't know why

did you see any link to github source for any released firmware mod? , custom firmware? they just release "new firmware" without showing what "changed" although is all GPL OPEN SOURCE

hmmm , so 1st you said they used hdmi 1.4 plug instead of 2.0 to save money , which is not true .. since there is not physical difference between hdmi 1.4 and 2.0

now it's samsung and LG tv's not "defining the box" as 4k60p? do you know how EDID works? , it's pretty standard thing ..

I wish you could try a different box firmware without bricking your device to see it working fine at 4k60p ..

device with hdmi 2.X and support 4k60p, but not with all devices, this is a mistake firmware of the developers of this TV box.
not working correctly in all firmware - Extended Display Identification Data (EDID)
New Samsung and LG TVs do not define this TVBox as 4k60p

any UVC compatible webcam should work (although none of the software installed includes Hardware encoding)

any USB / BT game controller should work
