Google apps!
So it turns out it's trivial to install Google apps on the device - I stumbled across APKTOP - questionably legal, but they have download for all of the Google apps - GMail, Maps and YouTube all work. The Play Store unfortunately crashes but that is probably because some dependency is missing.
Further, when I 'adb shell' into the device, I'm happily presented with:
Code:root@android:/ #
Enjoy!

I had no trouble at all with the Google Market. I basically followed the directions here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...rket-and-more!
EDIT: To clarify, I used N4RPS's instructions. The device is rooted and /system is already R/W, so some of the steps aren't needed.

Just install vending.apk?
Actually, I think it's even easier than those instructions, because we're already on ICS. Here's what I did...
I took this Market APK: http://www.apktops.com/android-market-3-2-0.html
copy it to system/apps/vending.apk. If you have adb installed, this is as easy as:
Code:adb push Android_Market_v3.2.0.apk /system/app/vending.apk
Code:adb shell "chmod 644 /system/app/vending.apk" adb reboot
I had also copied over a GoogleFrameworkServices.apk from a ICS gapps package I had for my Galaxy S but I'm pretty sure that wasn't even necessary.
I also suspect this would work if you copied over the latest Google Play APK that's on APKTOP, but it's not necessary since the market app updates itself as I said, you end up with the newest version either way!

Last I checked clockworkmod does not work with ICS Allwinner chip set, yet. It does however work fine with gingerbread. If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0

Would I be better off exchanging my PMID701i for a PMID702c? It's sounding from posts folks have made here like the wifi is better on the PMID702c than on the PMID701i and doesn't cut out as bad with low connections. Only thing is my Big Lots probably doesn't have the PMID702c and since I bought my 701i Apr 29 I think, the time period for taking it back may have expired.
Or is there anything I can do or download to make the wifi better? Love the tablet, it's a good one so far, just not keen on dropped signals when the wifi connection gets poorer or further away.Tablets: Polaroid PMID 701i, PMID 4311, Zeki 10" tablet

Wifi seems to be good and touch screen is responsive. Camera is typical for low end tablets.
I hope the g sensor can be fixed by a firmware update or tweak since this seems to be a nice tablet.
