Lol yea... If i did not take that pcb out myself i would not believe it fits in there. Almost broke my casing putting it back. My IR sensor was completely bent back by the original assembler - probaly also struggling and cursing along the way with the assembly. Glad i noticed it because my remote was really giving me hassles especialy when aiming it from an angle below the unit.

It's easy to take apart. Remove the rubber feet and the screws are there.
Make sure NOT to leave a SDcard in it or you might break the SDcard slot!
Also watch out for the antenna. It's taped to the cover.

    Any other cautions?

    1) The stock heat sink is held on with thermal tape. Not the best stuff. You can use PC heat sink thermal paste and this should improve the heat sinks ability to move heat. Not if you use something conductive like Arctic Silver, be care NOT to get any on the processor pins! You only need a very thin coat of thermal paste not a messy blob!

    2) Active cooling e.g. a fan of some kind to remove heat from the sink and out of the box.

    Thank you Bob.

I'm fairly good at stuff like that, ...
...but are there any other warnings about possible pitfalls taking this apart and putting it back together?

    And, ...
... any pointers about special any special procedures or hidden screws?

Again, thank you for your previous post.

    Overheating

I have the 16GB Standard, I left it on running the "Koi" fish pond live wallpaper, for 2 days. No other apps were left on.

When I then tried switched to it (selecting its HDMI) and installed a simple bowling game, the screen went black and the unit was frozen.

I had to pull the power plug, then rebooted.
I then uninstalled the bowling game.
When I tried to run any app, it went black and froze again. I checked the units temperature and found it to be extremely hot to the touch.
I tried the pull power and reboot sequence twice more but had the same result.

The unit was sitting in open space slightly behind and underneath of my 55" TV. Ambient temperature was 68 F degrees.

I have not touched it and have left it off (power unplugged) for 2 days now.

Is there a reasonably easy way to improve the heatsink?

My mistake - this change has been made on the new 101k4 ROM, not on Finless 1.3Sorry for the confusion.

They get supported just the same. The standard has 16gb flash instead of the 8gb (more than enough at this stage). Also the standard has dualband wifi which has performance advantage with high bit rate advantage.

I have a standard but have 12gb free flash and oly have 2.4ghz wifi ap which stream my movies just fine so to be honest, a elite would have been just fine for me

Sometimes when I shut my unit off the red light comes on for a couple seconds, then the blue light comes on and stays on even though the unit is still off. It is not consistent though, sometimes the red light just comes on and stays on when I turn the unit off.
