Brian, this is the one I've been trying to root for the last two weeks. I've tried everything. I sure hope this new tool works.Randy

It took me a while to find the 1.7.7 version of the tool that was pictured above...it's not the tool for regular download.
Anyway, I tried it...and ended up the the app telling me that I successfully rooted the device.
However, you couldn't tell it by anything else. Root Checker fails to recognize root. X-plore File Manager refuses to even look at the root folders. MTKdroidTool can't access su.
So I tried an adb shell and push the root myself...but while you can list the folders all over the place in root, you can't push anything to the device.
Then, I made a custom CWM with MTKdroidTool and tried to flash it with the scatter file I made from the tool. Upon plugging the tablet in, the download began...but the SP Flash Tool crashed halfway through the download...and my tablet is hard bricked. It won't even turn on. I get a chime from Windows whenever I plug in the USB...but no activity whatsoever.
I guess I'm dead in the water unless someone with more MTK experience can bail me out.Randy

Not yet. I have Geekbuying making some contacts for me to work it out.
China is now off of their Dragon Boat holiday...so I should get somewhere now.
I wouldn't recommend messing with rooting this model until I find a safe way to do it.
Its funny how that app showed that it rooted the tablet, but it actually did nothing. The bricking occurred when I decided to aggressively flash an untested CWM that I made with the MTK Multitool. Halfway through the flash...the SP Flash Tool crashed. Now the tablet won't boot at all.Randy

I believe that for that SoC the correct tool to flash is MTK flash tool and not the SP Flash tool. Check this site http://mtk2000.ucoz.ru/bb/?8379
Unless you messed with the pre-loader this things are unbrickable.

This method works if updated to 1.0.9

Though it was worth reporting back as I've seen nobody confirming this so far.
I would stay clear from Vroot as there's been suspicion of spyware on this one (sending IMEI and other info back to China, don't know if it's true...)
Randy: I hope you'll get your tablet back up and running soon. It's a damn good device.Last edited by Silverbarrel; 12 June 2014, 16:40.
