Different firmware, different behavior

Yeah I'm not sure just how accurate the readings I get from a cpu temp app are... one second it's 45deg C, next it's 55deg C, then it's suddenly 70, then back down to 45 lol...
if it was 70, for sure the lid of the unit would be hot to touch, but mine's cool...
I installed 'set cpu', an set max to 1600 just to be on safe side ... temps around 50 -55 most of the time on Finless 1.7 rom

Is there any confirmation of performance issues with these temps? We dont even know if its an accurate guage

after I hardware mod my box this week I will attempt to undervolt and see how low I can go stabily. That should cut down on heat depending on how low I can take it.

Thanks for the post showing the trip points, Oman. Judging by my nearly-always 70-75C I guess I just have to live with a 1.2Ghz clock instead of the 2Ghz that it is advertised as. This is pretty disappointing, hopefully it can be made more clear for future buyers.

But I read that you now ordered a x8...

Can this unit ever run 2ghz (long periods) without a coolmod? (In your opinion)
If i do a coolmod..
Could/would the unit run at fullspeed?
Or would i need to custom/tweaked kernel for this?
I have seen people doing coolmods.. but the still have hight temps and throttles
Are you shure the temps sensor/software is accured?

You can see in 105k4 dtd file:

stock throttles at 80C and 110C it should shutoff or turn into a Chinese oven

FWIW, running Finless 1.7 (no CPU tweaks) I seem to be basically stuck at 75C. It doesn't seem fake to me, it runs noticeably hotter to the touch than it did with Finless 1.6.
I'm a bit nervous about it, since it's going to get a bit hotter still this summer, and I haven't been able to find a spec for max temp of the S802, but I would guess that it's somewhere in the 80s.
While I'm here, what is the best App for examining the behaviour of the cores and temps over time? I'm using "CPU Temperature" from the app store, but I find the CPU Cores + Freq readout confusing, and it doesn't seem to match what I can see in Antutu. Really looking for a good app that will track both in a reliable and accessible way.
