Root Vega S89 etc. with Clockworkmod Superuser (flashable zip)

I decided to root my Tronsmart Vega S89-H yesterday night but I noticed all root methods either used vRoot or flashed SuperSU. Since I don't trust vRoot and don't like SuperSU (mostly because it's closed source and the UI leaves a lot to be desired) I made my own flashable zip with Clockworkmod Superuser instead. Since the recovery image on the Tronsmart is basically a stock recovery I had to rewrite the updater-script and repackage the zip with the needed tools and resign it.

Simply copy it to an sdcard or USB stick and flash it using the built in OTA updater.

It will likely work on all S802 devices but I could only personally test it on the Vega S89.

    Nice..

    But see:

    And

    Or

    What ROM are you using?

    Cheers

Your point being what? The first link is a blog and the second is a link to a rom that uses SuperSU, something I explicitly said I dislike. Neither of them does what this does.

The stock ROM since I needed to root it manually.

Only thing I don't like about this is I don't like modifying install-recovery.sh as other apps might and thus break root. I may use SuperSU but it is a installed as a daemon defined in init.rc and permanent (in my custom ROMs anyway).

I found bugs in the past with superuser before and thus I prefer supersu.

But to each his own! This provides an alternative should anyone want it.

"Vergib ihnen, denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun"
"Vergeef hen want ze weten niet wat ze doen"
"Pardonne-leur car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font"
"Perdónalos porque no saben que lo que hacen"
"Oprosti im, jer ne znaju što čine"
"Forgive them as they know not what they do"

Like you say this is mostly about the freedom to choose.

Since this is for stock roms, using init.rc isn't really an option since that would require repackaging boot.img. Which apps have you found that modify install-recovery.sh?

Losing root is less of a problem on these devices since their recovery allows flashing zips signed with the AOSP test-keys. As such, you can easily get it back.

I posted this mostly because I figured someone out there might want to use Superuser too and since I had already done the work required. It might also help to spread awareness of just how easy these devices are to root (which is intentional). No need for exploits from untrusted sources etc.
