I took my chances without backing up my IMEI, since yours weren't affected and everything went smoothly. I shall see if the on and off problem persists and let you know.

    Really thank you.

    2. Downloaded SuperSu and when I tried to run it it said there is no Su something and that's a problem
    3. Installed adb 1.3
    4. Run Droid tools which grabbed the phones info but with blue icon

Edit: I want to try the ReilyRom to see if my proximity sensor problem persists. Also I want to try to re-calibrate it using adb but I have to be root to do so... Bummer...
    but that's the problem then
    you are not rooted
try again iroot.... it worked for me i can't provide a link right now. maybe look for the newest version?
the idea is that you make a "dirty root" to backup the imei and then you install the good rooted clean riley rom, wiping all there was before
you can flash riley rom without doing all my steps but you risk to lose the imei, that's the only issue. and i wan't able to understand how to restore them or change them

i have to say that i didn't lose the imei when updating
maybe somehow you can also set them up manually if you have root access, after flashing the rileyrom, but i didn't try it

I have a problem with my proximity sensor. It seems to have a mind of its own. Does anybody know how to disable the automated function for the flip cover? I only want the sensor to work on phone calls.

Excluding this glitch the phone is super imho...

so! after 4 hours of struggle i'm ready to explain how to solve the cwm issue and backup imei/nvram (which btw remained intact after update)

get the software iroot (ex vroot). it's the only one able to root mtk6592
you will get a chinese superuser app
then you have to install from play store supersu (yes, one above the other... it works, adb doesn't get installed with the chinese su, or maybe it works if already installed, you can try)
install adb from here (i used 1.3 version)
15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.3 ADB, Fastboot and Drivers What is this? This is All-in-One installer for 3 most needed PC tools for Android. No need to download big SDK for 3 small things. I originaly made it for my Kurdish friend AnGrY DuDe in...

launch mtk droid tools and press root. do it only if the icon is yellow, not blue! if blue it will never succed and the program will hang
supersu will ask for root permissions for adb
now mtk droid tools may hang, the green bar doesn't move and it remains yellow. simply disconnect and reconnect the phone. icon will turn green and you can now do backup

    issues in this rom
-there are still 2 chinese programs but easy to remove
-the logo at the beginning is troubled, some overlapped images, i restored the logo from stock rom

i have the impression it is also slightly slower at boot (30 seconds are fully acceptable in any case! )

I have also used the P4, but it uses Samsung's PLS panel which is pretty darn good, as you said, but still doesn't quite reach LG's IPS panel quality.

Anyway, I think I have just become overly picky regarding display quality over the years because one gets spoiled by the high end panels that are so widely available in handheld devices these days.

Looking forward to try out the rom

    Hi Riley,

I am seriously considering buying this phone to put your Rom on it (as I've only heard and seen good things about your roms). Now, the only thing I'm still concerned about regarding the phone is the screen quality. See, I come from using an iOcean X7. Not sure if you're familiar with this phone but it has an absolutely gorgeous 1080p IPS panel with the best white balance and colour correction I have seen to date.
I am aware that the Pipo T8 uses an AHVA panel -- in your opinion, how does it compare to a good quality IPS panel in terms of white balance, contrast and colour correction?

    Kind Regards & Thanks,
    Rene

    started a topic Pipo T8 RileyROM 1.0 & 1.1 [KitKat]

    Pipo T8 RileyROM 1.0 & 1.1 [KitKat]

This is an interesting little 6.44" tablet in Pipo's line of MTK6592 tablets with smartphone features. (I hate the term phablet for some reason ) This one looks like you wouldn't appear as too much of an idiot holding this up to your ear to talk on the phone.

RileyROM v1.0 is based on official Pipo firmware dated 8/30/14 for the T8 MTK Tablet.

    EDIT:

RileyROM v1.1 is based on official Pipo firmware dated 9/3/14. There was no change log, so I don't know what is different.

    ROM Features

    Rooted with SuperSU
Not much debloat was necessary on this ROM
    init.d and busybox support
English as default language (full international support)
    Multi-User activated
Your choice of 3 through 12gb user app space by selecting the desired EBR files
Auto install of apks in your external SD autoinstall folder
Tweaks added to improve the likelihood of being able to write to SD
    CWM Recovery created with MTKDroidTool

    Back Up NVRAM/IMEI
Back up your NVRAM/IMEI data before flashing this ROM. You can easily do this by:

    1. Turn your tablet off.
    2. Install the PDAnet app included in the ROM kit to install the drivers. (If you haven't done so yet)
    3.
Open the flash tool on your Windows PC.
    4. Load the scatter file as prompted...it's in the RileyROM folder of the ROM kit.
    5. Uncheck everything from the list of files to flash except recovery.img.
    6. Browse by clicking the recovery.img line in the flash tool, and select CWM_Recovery.img.
    7. Click Download (with Download Only setting on the flash tool)
    8. Connect the USB to your tablet.
    9. When the flash has completed (a box will show up saying so), unplug the USB from your tablet.
    10. Hold the Vol+ button and press power. Your tablet will boot to CWM Recovery.
    11. Open the MTK Droid Tools app (located in the ROM kit).
    12. Connect USB to tablet and watch for your tablet info to populate on the MTK Droid Tool.
    13. Click the IMEI/NVRAM button.
    14. Click Backup. (Your Backup will be in the Backup folder of the MTK Droid Tools folder.)
    15. Disconnect your USB when the backup is complete.
    16. Press the power button to reboot to system.

    Now, the Flash Instructions
    1. Be sure you backed up your NVRAM/IMEI data above.

    2. Open the flash tool.
    3. Click the Scatter-loading button and browse to the scatter file in the RileyROM folder.
    4. Select the desired EBR1 and EBR2 files for the user app space size you wish to create. They MUST MATCH.
    5. Use the Download Only mode.
    6. Turn the tablet off.
    7. Click the Download button.
    8. Connect the USB to your tablet.
    9. Watch the activity at the bottom of the screen.
10 A green X will appear indicating you are done with the download.
    11. With the tablet off, hold the vol+ button and press power until the tablet powers up...you will go into recovery.
    12. Using the volume buttons and the power button navigate through recovery and do a "wipe/factory reset".
    13. Boot to system.
    14. Your tablet will boot to KitKat. Wait a few minutes for any apps to appear in the app drawer that you've placed in the autoinstall folder. (Be careful not to over use the autoinstall feature. This is for just a few necessary apps like a terminal or file explorer app. You can add the main Titanium app to autoinstall, but the key app won't work this way.)

    Download v1.0
    Download v1.1
    Enjoy!!!!!!
