        New Level

JM, spectacular as your recent burst of Android brilliance has been, your foray into OpenElec could take things to an altogether new level. Equal to PureLinux, if not better. I've seen that potential after running your build for 3 blisteringly fast hours today.

As I see it, just 3 issues stand in the way: 1) the square box remote (old) only half-works; 2) temperatures do climb after 2 hours - not meltingly hot by any means, but noticeably warm. (Those CPU cores are not idling at idle); 3) at 1080p, random screen flickers set in after a bit. Turning Vsync on all the time helps but doesn't eliminate the issue. Maybe linked to 2)?

Fix those, and you'll ignite a new global scramble for the M8.

          Am I being thick??

I just can't seem to get this installed

tried the toothpick method and says no command

Tried with toothpick and no card then update from ext and it boots to openelec screen then switches tv input off

was really looking forward to this too.

          tried reboot after install
tried unplugging like a few posts above and still just gets to splash screen and then cuts off tv input

          Can anybody help??

I had the same issue mate. Flashing finless 1.7 and then to openelec stopped the losing source on tv. But hangs at openelec screen now

Ok I had the Openelec screen hanging problem also.... and the recovery included with the installation would not work with my remote or a usb keyboard.... this is how I finally got it to work..

You need all the files include in the Openelec beta zip.

Put them on root of SD card..

Power unit up with tooth pick..

Use a USB mouse with a scroll wheel... (try not to move the mouse)

Scroll to install ext and select the Openelec zip...

Boom you should now boot to Openelec...

As stated remote is half working and Temps get hot...

              Good work @justme

Don't know why it works for me, and not some others. My board is nothing better than an H8M8 V2.0.

Here are the exact steps I followed. NB: all I used was a Logitech USB keyboard plugged in at the outset.

                1. Remove SD card (with the rom files on it) Note, these are the files INSIDE JM's download.
                2. Use toothpick to get into stock recovery.
                3. Insert SD card with all JM's files on it.
                4. From recovery menu, perform factory reset.
                5. From recovery menu, wipe cache (yes, again)
                6. Select Install update from Ext, navigate to rom zip and install
                7. When installation is done, do another factory reset from recovery.

                Power off and restart.

@justme do you want any bugs reported? I'm not nagging or trying to pressure you...

One thing I noticed, not sure if it because the remote isn't fully working... but if the box is powered down for a shut down, there is no way to power it back up... only way is to unplug and replug....

Thanks and keep up the good work.

                                @JM

On my square M8 remote, the following don't work:

                                1. Power On from sleep
                                2. Back
                                3. OK
                                4. Info

                                Cursor keys work fine.

Home only takes you to the top of your current menu.

                                Thanks for the brilliant work.
