ROM info for this CX929 S805 device.

Hello all, I want for say that I have look and the google spread sheet in the FAQ regarding ROM version for hardware devices and I couldn't see my unit listed.

    I have purchased the following : http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...240910726.html

When I look at the image on the site it shows Brand MBX and Model MK808B Plus, to be certain I have installed AnTuTu myself and looked at the info tab, I get Brand MBX and Model S201.

The initial rom comes with XBMC 13 and some Chinese App that I want to get ride of. I would also like to start from a base fresh rom (hopefully, available here) and add a few default apps that I would like to have standard in my ROM.

Can I assumed that I am actually running a MK808B Plus ? When I type CX929 on google only the aliexpress site comes up.

    Thanks

    Sly

Ok, I have an small update, I wen on and tried the stock 109K4 rom using the AMLogic burning tool. Everything went well except that I couldn't turn on Wifi anymore. (this was working before with the ROM / Kernel the CX929 s805 came with)

Now I tried Finless 1.1 rom and it updated fine, except I still have no Wifi possible. When I try to turn wifi on, it simply stays grey out.

I do have anohter device with with original rom from the vendor, I could install AnTuTu to try to get some Wifi Chipset info maybe ?

What would be the best step to follow to try to find a suitable rom for it ? Or maybe try to update Finless' one (after asking him) with an updated network driver ?

I have opened up the device CX929 S805 to identify the wifi chip, it looks like a Realtek RTL8723BS / DBJ07ER / GE10D
      Other Chip shows S805 / SKhynix H27UCG8T2BTR / 2 x Samsung k4b4g1646q-hyko
      Baord shows QL2015.06 and M805_dongle_ref_v03

From looking in the forum it lokos like other folks have asked for updated ROM with an updated firmware to support this old wifi chip.
It his something possible for fimless 1.1?
Should I simply make a request to Bob ?

      Thanks

Some follow up on this: In case someone else ends up buying this CX929, the stock rom was provided by the vendor. I have able to also root it using the instruction and zip file provided by finless :

        http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...ROM-quot-ROMs=

Next step will be for me to try the recovery image that was created for the MK808B Plus to see if I can use CWM in this newly rooted device.

Note: I am totally new to this scene and I learning a great amount of things everyday. I am happy that I end up on this forum which so far have provided me (after some reading / searching) a great amount of knowledge!

Hopefully, I can extend my knowledge level to the point where I will be able to extract the RealTeck driver form the stock rom and update Finless 1.1 with a new kernel having support for the unsupported wifi driver. One step at the time

step1 : Install burning tool to your computer and run it . step2 :long press R key ( FN key of CX929) before connect the left side micro usb port of tv stick with your computer by usb cable , and don't release the R key until burning tool recognize the tv stick, then release the R key. ( R key is in the little hole at one side of the TV stick , please use a needle or little pin to press it , The Tool will find the tv stick within 5 seconds.). step3: On burning tool, choose the path of the Firmware( IMG FILE you downloaded) , then click "begin"to upgrade the firmware . it will finish automatically. it need longer time for the first starting after you restored new firmware.

          Today's update.

I ended up trying a few recovery rom and ended up finding a working one in this forum

I was able to create a backup and reapply it using TWRP which is great.

Since I would realy like to used finless 1.1 (I tried it without wifi and it was beter!) I tried to create a flashing zip rom using the backed up data.

After reusing the META-INF from finless 1.1 and copy over the rooter scripts to my extracted backup, I was able to run a recovry process but it failed with

          e: footer error
          e: signature failed.

Next step, I will try to use tar command instead of winrar when extracting my backed up .win files. I was getting erorr with winrar and maybe it was caused by that.

Also I looked at update_script form META-INF and realized that i needed the bootloader.img and twrp.img which I also took from finless rom 1.1.

Even though I'm not getting something that work as I am pleased, I still want to give credtis to the right people for their work: bob for finless rom1.1 and noderat \ Abdul for the recovery rom!

            Hi, djsly,

Any luck porting finless on this one?
I have a MK808 Plus with this rtl8723bs and the original firmware sucks .

Unfortunately, not yet, I have put a hold on trying to get finless 1.1 running with this rtl8723bs. For now I am focusing on getting a backup image using the stock rom since I need to ship 50 or so unit. Once this is done, I will be looking at extracting the kernel from my image and putting it in finless boot image

So, anybody else have CX929 from AliExpress?

                  My experience:
I was able using TWRP TWRP v2.8.1.0 for MK808B+ backup: Boot, Data, System
Using the same TWRP attempted to flash Finless 1.1. Flashing finished successful - However it bricked device. It was not able to boot.
Using the same TWRP from external SD card I was able to restore Stock ROM.

Djsly - How do you managed to flash Finless into that device??? I know that WiFi is not gonna work, But I still want to try...

Also, I didn't save Original recovery partition - Anybody has it?
