    Which CPU?

I am looking for a new Andriod box. Upon my research, I see that there are many choices. Surprisingly, boxes with S812 and S905 are in similar price range while S905 is newer, faster and have better features. Am I missing something here?

I have to decide between 2Gb/8Gb and 2Gb/16Gb. How important is 16Gb?, I will use this box to stream HD video (Kodi) mainly.

The S812 should be faster than the S905 on most tasks as it has an octacore Mali 450 GPU versus a pentacore Mali 450 GPU in the S905. The Antutu score for the S812 is ~40000 vs ~27000 for the S905. Have you looked at the MXIII-G which is currently on promotion at Gearbest or the Tronsmart MXIII Plus which is also on special at Geekbuying?

The S812 has been on sale for about a year now so most of the bugs have already been ironed out. The S905 has just been released so there may still be problems with firmware. I would avoid any of the Aliexpress/Amazon/**** devices as they are all badly supported copies and you will struggle to reinstall or upgrade the firmware which will definitely be required at some stage.

    Here are two reviews ...

KitKat, Lollipop and OpenELEC firmware are currently available for both of these devices. If you prefer the 16GB option then you should look at the Tronfy MXIV Telos but that is usually quite a bit more expensive. Post again if you want any further information.

Thanks for your response. Somehow I thought the S905 would be faster than S812. How about H265 decoding? I read that S905 uses hardware H265 decoding. Kind of strange that there would put a lesser GPU to go with the newer CPU.

I prefer to buy from Canada to avoid custom and brokerage fees.
In Amazon.ca, they sell both Tronsmart S812 MX3 Plus (2/8 GB) and Tronsmart S905 Meta (2/8 GB) for $90CAN. Please help me to decide. My primary use for this box is to watch HD video.
By the way, they sell the higher model Telos for $110CAN. Although I have a spare external SATA drive, I usually use my two USB drives, 1TB and 2TB.

I came across this: Tronsmart Draco AW80 Meta Allwinner A80 Octa Core Android 4.4 TV Box 2G/16G 2.4G/5G WIFI
Specs are good but more expensive, I read reviews that it is super fast.

CPU is were all your transactions on the computer take place. If you open a program, the CPU will tell the computer what data to process in order to make this program work. The more you do on your computer at one time, the more of the CPU will be used. : ).

I read that there are other CPUs for these TV boxes; Allwinner, Amlogic, Rockchip (3368, 3288), etc.
Amongst my friends, it looks to me that the Amlogic are the most popular one. Guess I will have to do more research!

                Hi Mis3

I was in the same boat as you. I went with the MXIII-G 2G/8G and am really happy. I ended up at Openelec (thanks wilro) and its fast, relatively trouble free and does what i need 3D, H265, 1080p streaming etc.

I would recommend Openelec as it is faster and uses bugger all ram and rom. If you go with something else make sure it is well supported in the way of builds and community.

I just ordered the Tronsmart s95 Telos.
I am a newbie and will experiment with this box.
I will google Oepnelec. Is this another variation of Kodi?

Why we are not able to replace the processor with a faster one?
