Tesco Hudl - is this possible?

Just got a quick query. I've got a Tesco HUDL - quite an old tablet now and we never really used it from the get go since its always been so slow. Anyway, I recently picked it up again and started using it for lounge browsing. A quick root, xposed installation and I've made the thing usable in crude ways (performance governor, ripping sys apps down to the bare minimum, blocking wakelocks, startups and tweaking minfree). It works a-ok but I reckon it's be better if a whole new rom could be compiled for it.

As I understand Tesco basically abandoned this tablet, released the Jelly Bean Kernel source code and had done with it. Not seen any ROM developments since so is it just that no one has taken to it? Or is it possible to compile a ROM for it? With the JB kernel source I'm wondering if its possible for me to follow a custom kernel compile guide for beginners (yep, there's one on XDA :P) and loadAOSP Android 6.0 on. Not sure if that's a stupid statement or not, hence why I'm posting.

On another note: this thing has serious battery drain in deep sleep unless WiFi is turned off. Hardly any wakelocks but to get the battery life graph on a flat line I have to set the WiFi to be off when the screen is off... yet it doesn't resume a connection or see my router until I toggle the WiFi. Any reason why? I'm guessing crappy WiFi driver :/ *edit*: Fixed with Better WiFi on//off app.
