Tried KODI 16.1/17 and spmc and i only get stereo pcm. If i select bitstream from the KODI menu, i get no sound. If i choose pcm i get stereo out only.

The only thing i haven't tried yet is FTMC.

Did you manage to get DD/DTS bitstream in any way?

I also get minor lags in YouTube (in all resolutions)

The unit is connected to Marantz sr7011 a/v receiver supporting all latest codecs. Cables are certified as well.
Check if you can root your device.
Then copy this app to /system/Settings2 folder that you create -https://github.com/geekboxzone/mmall.../Settings2.apk
You can change the audio output in that app.

The minor lags in Youtube is because of the slow RAM and EMMC storage.
You can use foldermount to mount the Youtube cache folder to an external drive that can solve it.

Well interesting box indeed this Yundoo Y8...
Boot time from power on around 7 seconds so very quick.
Power button on the front that works and just a Red off Blue on LED

Antutu 77500K so not to shabby
Yundoo Y8 is looking pretty good with UI and Performance Snappy.

I can feel a bit of heat on the lid so I would say the added Thicker thermal pad is doing Good.
Idle temps in the Hi 40c under stress with 3DMark around 70c

Using CPU Temp Pure to monitor temps only as a guide, I can see temps Rise and fall very quick.
On the Media players it just seems to go High and Stay there.
This will peak 70c then drop down again to 60 and bounce in between. so cool down time appears quick.
But as mentioned only a guide.

We also have upper and lower task/notification bar
    Root is available.

As you will see below there are some Impressive Benchmark score so far so good box is showing signs of
being a good and capable unit and can only get better from here.

Netflix was OK looked good, BT, WiFI, Ethernet all good at this location

Will do some basic Kodi testing but as most it will be good in some area and fail in others as most Units do Today
Its installed with TVMC just another in the many using Kodi 16.1 as the base and fancy backgrounds etc.

    But looking good.

    Again Thanks to Gearbest

Any workaround for digital audio passthrough?
    Downmix works great though.

Prob 1.8Ghz as the Firefly uses the reference board. Can achieve around 75,000 points in Antutu

Its a really interesting chipset as quite a lot of the grunt is in the processor rather than the GPU.
Throw in the Sata & 4GB Ram and the questions are Linux, Chromium OS or Android.
The Linux support is going to be really good, relative to some other chipsets and we might see these in many guises.
I want one and thinking about an early release, which I usually wait for a while, for things to settle with firmware and price, but I must admit I am excited about a sweet spot where actually we are talking home servers for an initial £90 that are likely to drop with economies of sale.

Really interested if anyone is gearing up for a straight linux ROM as Nextcloud/OpenWrt/Kodi boxes could be quite interesting, already have a 4 disk Sata III port multiplier box lined up for one of these.
Dunno if I am going to bother with Android or not.

There seems to be some confusion about exactly what the CPU runs at.

Advertising says 2Ghz, CNX says 1.5Ghz and I saw another spec for the Firefly talk of 1.8Ghz.
