Custom ROM for the Mecool M8S Max?

Is anyone working on a custom ROM for the Mecool M8S Max? I am getting this as my next box because finally they started making a TV box with a built in fan to solve the heating issues all these TV boxes have. However I hate stock Android TV that comes with all these TV boxes. Would love to see a non-android TV (phablet android). If anyone is developing let me know. I would be happy to beta test.

I dare to believe that it is the same firmware as the M8S Pro L , for which Guest has developed the custom firmware already

I was wondering the same, but I think the M8S Max is actually based on the LB variant.

At the moment I'm running it on stock and it runs well, even Nova launcher runs smoothly on it. I had to tweak the box though somewhat and fix the generic.kl file to get the enter button working on my wireless keyboard and uninstall VSLauncher. But I had no issues rooting with Magisk manager nor getting Viper4Androidfx installed.

So far I think it's overall a better box than the H96 Pro plus I had running Superceleron's ROM. The built in fan makes a huge difference to the CPU temperature. At full load it runs at 45C. Idle temperature is 35C.

Nice to hear you have received the box already, as i just ordered one to check out the temperature.

On all my boxes I add a larger heat sink and build a 8cm fan under the box, and on the Pro L LB i get then similar temperatures as you quote though I'm in tropical Thailand, so that is a lot of work saved.

Magendanz has the custom firmware for the LB as well

Since you have the box in use already, have you opened it up?

I be much interested how the fan is mounted. Does it still have a heat sink or are the fan and heat sink one piece?

Is there the aluminium heat dispensing plate under the pcb same as with the LB?

Eventual pictures of the internals would be much appreciated

No I haven't opened it up yet. Been more focused on getting the software running.

Flash the Magendanz LB rom on it. I have flashed the nano version on several Pro L LB and they run excellent on it.

I have flashed the Guest Pro L rom ( not the LB ) and it works a charm.

Everything working an very fast. With the LB rom the wifi doesn't work, because it is for Broadcom wifi chip, while the Max has a Qualcomm chip

Thanks for the feedback. Then I'll try play with my box and get that ROM installed.
