ID:	785590 I was wondering if there are any guys out there that do or have experience using an Android TV box in replacement of a PC.

After having used a couple of Android TV boxes instead of a Windows PC quite successfully for about 2 years I was wondering why it seems that I am the only one to have done this substitution / replacement. What would be the pros and cons to use an Android TV box in replacement of a Windows PC. Personally, I mainly use office and productivity applications and I feel much more relaxed since I replaced Microsoft by Android. I personally see a lot of pros and very few cons. What about you?

I am very curious about your feed back.

Above a picture of 2 of my Android TV boxes which run very stable since I put them in a new case, with a new heatsink and added a small very silent fan. They also have become faster. Temperatures are normally between 30 and 40 degrees and go up to a maximum of 48 degrees under very very heavy usage.

Cutting and Pasting is the biggest drawback. It does work fairly well for most applications.

Yes I agree Cutting and Pasting might in some cases be a bit less easy but most of the time there are ways to work around, but with Android I can sleep without having to fear that on the next morning the stupid Registry or Microsoft has messed up something and something will not be working. I am also much less stressed with regards to viruses and security. With my RK3399 I can do everything I was doing before under Windows. I work something like 6 hours a day on my box, mostly office work including printing and scanning. Obviously at the beginning it was not easy as with Android some things have to be done in different ways. Sometimes to achieve a job that under Windows I did with 1 app, I have to use 2 apps in Android to do the same thing.
For me, the biggest difference after 2 years of using a RK3399 Android box compared to a Windows PC, is that the box is still as fast as it was 2 years ago when I started to use it. With windows we all know that some apps become really slow after 2 years and therefore we have to spend A HUGE AMOUNT OF TIME IN MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING OUR SYSTEM ALL THE TIME. THE WORST IS THAT WHEN A WINDOWS MACHINE HAS BEEN CLEANED UP, TO MAKE IT FAST AGAIN IT SOMETIMES HAS BECOME LESS STABLE AND WE KNOW THAT IN 3 MONTHS TIME WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS WHOLE PROCESS AGAIN. IT IS A NEVER ENDING STORY OR A NEVER ENDING MESS AND STRESS.

          Yes... I tried it
When the Remix mini came out ..
I decided to test the "desktop replacement" comment the ad made

Copy and past.. works on remix mini (also on my allwinner h6 with sentio launcher )
on k480 keyb fn + c and v or motorola keyb dedicted buttons to copy past
printing works to Samsung printer , office , pdf edit , whatapp and email
USB DAC to headphone works , large msate to usb3 works , hp relicator
the experience was really good.. two android boxes + monitor 27' + lots of usb stuff connected 40 watts total

but since start 2019 : sites that require HTTPS started to fail to load
( like gearbest and paypal : android 5.1 and 6 no longer being supported )
and using normal android TV box like h6 comes with to many bugs

note: in the past I also tried : Linux , Beos sunos , openbsd as desktop (win) replacement
          - the all work.. but on linux based os's.. if you update and lose hw acc it becomes non workable slow

if you really seek to use android as desktop replacement
i would use android x86 on a small factor intel atom pc..
aka lots of harddisk space / ram and a option to upgrade android x86 to next versions
