    noobie questions

    Go gentle I'm a beginner ;-)
    I have a MK808B and have a few questions.

If I flash a finless ROM,will I loose all the xbmc addons ect that are currently set up in my device ( I bought it with lots of xbmc stuff already on it )??

Is there a maximum speed it will download from a router when hardwired to the router??

I have read on here about the wifi issues but for the moment I just want to get it setup hardwired.
I am trying different Ethernet to usb adapters. at present I have 42mbps to the MK808b and on my pc hardwired I get 72mbps, so with a better adaptor this may increase?

What is the wifi maximum speed it will work at? is it 69mbps ( assuming issues on antenna )

Thanks in advance guys. just want to learn.

Yes, but there are lots of places you can download XBMC and the addons.

Depends on the quality of the ethernet adaptor.

Depends on the wifi chipset in your device, Realtek, Mediatek or Broadcom. 'Clone' MK808B devices will always have weaker wifi eg. Mediatek.

Thanks in advance guys. just want to learn.
    Hope it helps.

Now... there is no one MK808B... which makes it confusing for new people

The original was made with a RK3066 cpu ( with integrated video ) and a RK903 WiFi/BT chipset. Clones have also been made by other companies that also use these same components and these will also work with the same ROM firmware that the original uses... quality difference may make some minor differences in performance but basically they should all work similarly. Where it gets confusing are the one's I call "fakes" that use different WiFi/BT chipsets so they can't use the same ROM firmware... many others here call the one's I call a "fake" a clone... so be certain which one/type they are speaking about.

If you have an original or a clone... you can use a ROM for an original/clone without issue. You need to make certain which you have and the only way to do that is open it up to see which chips are used in it. Here is a thread about that subject and where they refer to the "fakes" as different clones... see http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...-identify-them

I use the word "fake" simply because they are not like the original... it really doesn't mean they are worse... just different. Of course quality will still determine worse or better. The companies that make these and still called them MK808B are the one's at fault for the confusion this causes... They should have given them a different number so we could tell the difference... instead they wanted to sell them as if they were the original popular model just to boost their sales. It is what it is... and we as customers must just deal with it.

Typical wired ethernet ( in today's market ) uses 3 common speeds... 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1000Mbps ( 1Gbps )... The speed you will see will be determined by the slowed one you have as well as how much other traffic is on the network. In addition, it isn't just the router and ethernet adapter to consider if you are talking about internet.. your internet download speed will likely be slower than your own network. Quality also comes into play as does how long the ethernet wire is. You can also get interference from other electronics that are close by the line, router or ethernet adapter. Examples of things that can cause interference are florescent lights, transformers, other electric lines, electric motors ( like a fan ) as well as others.

As was mentioned... your WiFi connection may differ ( as well as taking into account interference issues ). Some of these devices get good decent speeds and others do not. Sometimes other things like having a cordless phone nearby can affect your WiFi speed... so do 2.4Ghz wireless keyboard/mice, bluetooth, wireless cameras and other simlar equipment. So if you use a wireless KB/mouse or add-on BT adapter... use an USB extension cable so they don't interfere as much with your WiFi connection.

Common WiFi speeds are often refereed to with letters such as 802.11b ( or just B ), G or N types... These are references to their fastest speed they can work at... B is 11Mbps, G is 54Mbps and N are up to 150Mbps. Distance and other interference will also determine the final speed you will see. I'm uncertain where you got the 69Mbps number from... unless someone was trying to say you'd likely not see the higher speed that is published and are more likely to get a lower number such as that one ( or another. )

Thanks for your help guys ,
the Internet is new and is fibre, so no issues there.

i was just trying to work out why my MK808b had a slower wired connection than my pc,
I have another USB to Ethernet adapter coming soon that should speed that part up , but I wondered if there was a cap on what the MK808 could handle speed wise ( hard wired ) . Will try new adaptor when it arrives and see how we go.
I will also take it apart and see what breed of MK808b it actually is. ;-)

        back soon guys.
