Which Rom/kernel and which XBMC for minix neo X7
Noob to android minipcs here so pardon my terminology errors. I have a stock X7 running standard XBMC with the Xunity Xfinity installer(?) and it works ok but sometimes skips frames or drops audio from streaming sources like much movies or simply movies. I have read so many posts on new Roms, kernels, Overclocking, and specialized versions of XBMC until my head hurts. There are just so many talented people working together here to make the X7 better I am confident I found the right device and forum. You guys are all amazing. I would like to know what most people think is the best combination for non-programmers (easy to install and use) who want to use their X7 as an XBMC Home Theater PC. The choices I see as of today 1/13/14 (and there are probably more) are KitKat beta, Minix 008, Lewy's x7 Hybrid 3.2, Finless 1.8 with and without overclocking, JustXBMC, BeyondXBMC, Minix XBMC beta 2 and Quickshot. I was going to use the JustXBMC with finless OC kernel but i couldnt seem to download JustXBMC without tons of popups, so I stopped and decided to query the X7 community. I also heard caching to a HD or SD card could help with the skipping of streaming video. Has anyone done a install guide or youtube video for X7 roms and XBMC? Thanks again guys and Freaktab. I'm using Bob's 1.8 Neo X7 720 no overclock ROM on my T428
Apparently the T428 has mostly the same hardware as the Minix Neo X7
I also just tried Beyond XBMC beta 1 from the sticky topic in this X7 forum. It crashed but after a Reboot of my device it started up fine. It looks fabulous but doesn't stream or play video that well for me. I tried to stream from my Desktop PC via Netgear N600 router and it just wouldn't happen at all. eHomeMediaCenter was able to stream from Desktop well, although I haven't tried that many different filetypes and resolutions. I don't really care to have XBMC anyway. I've always had better success and user friendliness from more basic video play methods and apps.
Now I've just installed the official XBMC from xbmc.org/download/ Current Stable Release 12.3 Frodo. It's smaller and snappier. I'd go with that, if you like things simple. The Video Add-Ons are where it's at for me. BTW trying to stream using Windows SMB from my Win7 Desktop PC didn't work with this version either. Maybe there's some sort of hack or add-on that makes streaming work but I don't like fiddling & diddling any more than you.Last edited by fwupow; 16 January 2014, 07:41.
