Noob Question on Root & CWM
I just got the drivers for my cx-919 installed in win 7. I am ready to flash the Finless 4.2.2 rom. In reading the instructions it does not say root is required nor clockwork mod. If I want to backup my stock rom before flashing, how do I root and where do I get cwm?Tags: None

I second this .... Got my cx919 with 4.2.2 not rooted
been trying to root & backup my rom before flashing Finless latest rom but without success so far
tried different drivers - device is found in windows but not in TPSparkyRoot.bat for some reason & Finless flash tool keeps giving me errors when I try to use it to flash recovery.img
looks like I am staying with my stock ROM for now
any help appreciated

Since no one with knowledge helped I thought I'd reply with what I did since it worked for me
I eventually gave up on rooting this POS but did a back up for stock ROM & flashed with Finless's latest 4.2.2 which is rooted
The CWM came with Finless didn't work for some reason so I re-flashed a cx-919 specific CWM [you will find somewhere on this forum] which worked for me
Now I have a rooted device with CWM

i want to backup stock ROM before trying a new ROM or movingup to kitkat.
how did you make the backup? i have specific CWM_zip for my tablet but whatever way i try to get it installed / to run i get nowhere. nearest i got was flashing the unziped recovery.img which i think worked, but cannot get it to boot into recovery to get it running and dump the backup img.... Grrr...
have posted on a couple of threads on the cube tablet forums here but no help as yet ...

If it's rooted then you could flash CWM & use an app to boot into recovery mode or use specific keys for your device to do this.
I gave up on rooting my stock ROM as nothing worked for me & found no help to do this to be honest
I used this tool with detailed instructions by Bob [thanks Bob] to backup my stock ROM & it should work the same way with yours. The most tricky bit is installing drivers for your device but I think any RK3188 drivers should work as long as it's identified by your PC & the tool shows as connected
After backing up your device you could try other ROMs & have the stock ROM to revert to just in case.
Note that Finless ROMs come with CWM & reboot to recovery app already there but for some reason the CWM supplied did not work for me so I flashed cx-919 specific CWM which worked
Hope this explains things
